About this role

Nurse Manager, Postpartum and Level IIA Special Care Nursery

Emerson Health is looking for an experienced, collaborative, and people focused Nurse Manager to lead our Postpartum Unit and Level IIA Special Care Nursery. This is a wonderful opportunity for a maternal newborn nursing leader who loves being close to the team, supporting families during one of the most meaningful times in their lives, and helping shape the future of maternity care in the community.

In this role, you will provide visible leadership for postpartum care, newborn care, and specialized nursery services. You will support safe, evidence based, family centered care for mothers, newborns, and families from birth through discharge, including newborns who need a higher level of monitoring or specialized support in the Special Care Nursery.

The ideal leader is approachable, energetic, organized, and passionate about creating a healthy work environment where nurses feel heard, supported, and empowered. Through shared governance, frontline engagement, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration, this Nurse Manager will help grow a maternity service that is trusted by patients, families, staff, and the community.

About the role

As the Nurse Manager for Postpartum and the Level IIA Special Care Nursery, you will lead daily operations, support staff development, guide quality and safety work, and help create an exceptional experience for mothers, newborns, and families. You will partner closely with nursing leadership, labor and delivery, physicians, nurse midwives, nurse educators, lactation, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social work, case management, and other clinical teams.

This is a hands on leadership role for someone who enjoys being present on the unit, solving problems in real time, coaching staff, and building strong relationships across the maternity service.

What you will do

Oversee daily operations including census, acuity, staffing, assignments, skill mix, patient flow, admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Participate in recruitment, onboarding, retention, succession planning, and workforce development.

Coach and develop staff through rounding, timely feedback, recognition, goal setting, annual reviews, and performance management when needed.

Lead quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives using data, audits, event reviews, and staff feedback to identify opportunities and sustain improvement.

Support best practices in postpartum recovery, couplet care, newborn stabilization and monitoring, infant feeding, bonding, family education, discharge readiness, and connection to community resources.

Ensure coordinated and compassionate care for newborns requiring Special Care Nursery services, including family integration, transfer planning, and collaboration with higher level neonatal centers when needed.

Advance culturally responsive and inclusive care for the diverse families and communities served by Emerson Health.
