SUMMARY

The Sleep Technologist works under medical supervision to perform and evaluate sleep testing. Functions independently to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment, monitor and score sleep wake physiology, recognize sleep physiology when it occurs and respond with the appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety and quality recordings.

Provides sleep testing within the Medical Center and in other contracted medical settings according to physicians' orders and policies and procedures to include infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

*Initiates assessment and reassessment based on sleep condition.

*Performs and documents polysomnograms.

*Performs and documents Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT).

*Scores sleep testing when competency validated.

*Administers and documents physicians' orders, nasal CPAP, BiPAP, Servo ventilation, AVAPS or oxygen therapy according to scope of practice.

*Monitors and documents oxygen saturations.

*Administers medications according to scope of practice.

*Maintains, operates and corrects equipment problems in a manner which ensures accurate results.

*Provides disease/process-specific patient/family education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an American Medical Association (AMA) program of respiratory care required. Must provide evidence of licensure/certification for practice area as required by state or federal standards/regulations. Prior clinical experience preferred. Registration as Registered Sleep Therapist (RST) or Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) required at hire or within 18 months of hire. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
