You will directly support the shaping and execution of McKinsey's state and local public affairs priorities, including prioritizing the effective positioning of McKinsey as a thought leader and the development and cultivation of relationships with key state and local stakeholders.
You will leverage a range of skills such as executive communication, attention to detail, and self-motivation to deepen our relationship with key internal and external stakeholders.

You will be a part of McKinsey's Public Affairs team, where you will work cross-functionally with leaders across the firm. Public Affairs is a non-client serving, strategic function that works within the policymaker ecosystem to humanize and de-mystify McKinsey's work, broadcast our firm's knowledge, and advance the firm's reputation for positive, enduring impact.
You will work with the Director of State & Local Public Affairs' State to execute the firm's state and local public affairs strategy and support reputation building and stakeholder engagement. You will partner with internal colleagues to coordinate and action against mutual strategic priorities, opportunities, and partnering initiatives with key external stakeholders, including state associations and external government relations consultants. In addition, you will collaborate regularly with Communications, Legal, Risk, and Ethics & Compliance colleagues in the development and execution of Public Affairs priority initiatives.
In terms of supporting the development and maintenance of relationships on behalf of the firm, you will liaise with key external partnering organizations to educate them and their members on the firm's value proposition. You will have the opportunity to serve as an ambassador of McKinsey and represent the firm in select forums. You will also support the growth and maturation of the firm's external government relations firm community, by convening regular learning calls, capturing best practices, and supporting PA leader and CTs with onboarding and contracting support.
In terms of creating effective communications: you will create clear, structured, and engaging written communications products (e.g., memos, emails, short-form content, talking points/scripts) that have specific internal and external readership. You'll assist in the planning and execution of communications for reports, special projects, external/internal conferences, and events (e.g., forums, webinars, roundtables).
In terms of project management, you will coordinate special initiatives with external partnering organizations, including providing periodic updates to firm leaders, liaising with cross-functional firm leaders to ensure key milestones are met, and supporting with content development. You will develop and execute a system for tracking external engagement, including overseeing contact databases, and ensuring follow-ups are effectively managed. In this capacity, you will proactively identify and raise risks alongside suggested potential courses of action.
