Covia is looking for a dynamicHeavy Equipment Mechanic who will have a positive impact on theteam at itsGuion, AR location.

The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • To comply with all company safety and environmental requirements in the performance of the job including participation and cooperation in safety meetings, safety inspections, and incident and accident investigations.
  • Must comply with company, state, and governmental health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Must complete and document Workplace Inspections in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy mobile equipment including haul trucks, loaders, dozers, excavators, graders, drills, and other mining/construction equipment.
  • Must be able to perform preventive maintenance inspections and report findings both verbally and in writing.
  • Must participate in the work order initiation, documentation, and completion process.
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of diesel engines and related engine systems.
  • Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair fuel delivery, emissions, and DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) systems.
  • Must possess a good knowledge of lubricants, fluids, filters, and their applications in heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, service, and repair hydraulic systems and components including pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, and motors.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, service, and repair pneumatic systems and components.
  • Must be able to inspect, repair, and replace wear components including cutting edges, bucket teeth, ground engaging tools, and undercarriage components.
  • Must be able to remove, mount, repair, and replace heavy equipment tires and wheels while following safe work procedures.
  • Must be able to inspect, diagnose, and repair drivetrain, steering, suspension, braking, and powertrain systems.
  • Must be able to inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical and electronic control systems using diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC/A/C) systems on heavy equipment.
  • Must possess a high level of rigging skills and be capable of safely operating lifting equipment associated with maintenance repairs.
  • Must be proficient in the use of precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, etc.).
  • Must be able to disassemble, rebuild, and reassemble major equipment components including engines, hydraulic systems, powertrain components, and final drives.
  • Must be able to perform equipment inspections and accurately identify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and operational deficiencies.
  • Must ensure maintenance tools are kept in good condition and repaired or replaced when necessary.
  • Must possess and maintain a complete set of personal hand tools as per the Company tool list.
  • Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment for testing, troubleshooting, and verification of repairs.
  • Must be proficient in all kinds of acetylene cutting, welding, and metal repair practices related to heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Must be proficient in the use of carbon arcing and other equipment repair methods.
  • Must possess basic fabrication skills and be able to repair or modify steel components and assemblies as required.
  • Should be able to perform equipment inspections utilizing thickness testing and other approved condition-monitoring techniques.
  • Should understand the purpose and application of thermography and condition-monitoring technologies.
  • Should have a basic understanding of non-destructive testing methods.
  • Should possess some knowledge of CMMS systems and be willing to correctly complete work orders, inspections, and maintenance checklists including signing and dating.
  • Must be able to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, parts diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Must be able to utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to effectively troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical failures.
  • Must perform post-job inspections to ensure repairs are completed properly and housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Must be willing to upgrade skills by participating in vendor training.
  • Must be willing to upgrade skills by participating in company-designated training.
  • Must be willing to train on any new equipment installations and technologies.
  • Must be willing to perform any other assigned tasks not specifically indicated.
  • Must perform all tasks in a timely and efficient manner.



The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years of experience required.
  • Must be able to work in high places and confined spaces.
  • Must be receptive to overtime and call-outs.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have completed an apprenticeship program, technical program, or have verifiable equivalent experience and training.
  • Must be well versed on all aspects of safety.
  • Must be a self-starter and possess good verbal communication skills.
  • Must have adequate computer, writing and mathematical skills.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Valid welding certificate (e.g ASME 4G) for Flat, Horizontal, Vertical, and Inverted Stick Arc welding in the past 5 years preferred.
  • Experience in a heavy industrial environment would be an asset.
