What to Expect

Tesla is currently seeking a motivated and accomplished Mechanical Engineer who will lead the design and implementation of automated material handling system for new and existing factories and programs at Tesla. This position will be based in Reno, NV. The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a smart, agile, and highly motivated team to accomplish some of the most ambitious projects being attempted in any industry today.


What You'll Do
  • Design automated material handling solutions to establish new and improved existing material flows throughout the facilities. The design includes material arrival at docks, delivery to line-side locations, material transport between internal manufacturing lines, buffer/storage systems, robotic material handling solutions
  • Drive material flow strategies and dynamic manufacturing systems
  • Develop analytical models to establish design criteria and overall system performance criteria
  • Investigate and research advanced technologies to optimize material handling equipment and systems
  • Concept development, detailed engineering design, and collaboration with system build and integration
  • Develop RFQs, technical equipment specifications, procedures, and proper documentation
  • Manage projects from concept through completion, following all Tesla standards

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ yrs in manufacturing sector (automation line integrator, automotive OEM or Tier 1,2,3 supplier)
  • Mechanical Designer, Project Engineer and Project Management experience
  • Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD software, strong design experience understanding the mechanics and standards of automation equipment
  • A solid engineering background with hands-on design and development experience
  • A passion to work with automation equipment and design processes around it
  • Ability to lead a project from concept through to installation and hand-over while working in a close-knit, team environment
  • Knowledge of and experience with material flow strategies and dynamic manufacturing systems.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage several complex projects at the same time with high degrees of variation and uncertainty
  • Controls experience is a plus
