Mgr Responsible Sourcing

Summary

The Manager of Responsible Sourcing supports the development and leads implementation of responsible sourcing strategies across priority agricultural supply chains, including peanuts and almonds. This role partners closely with Procurement, Sustainability, R&D, suppliers, NGOs, and industry partners to design and implement programs that advance Hershey's sustainability and responsible sourcing commitments, mitigate and manage environmental and social risks, and improve supply chain resilience. This role also represents Hershey in relevant industry groups, coalitions, and multi-stakeholder forums to advance shared learning and collective action on ingredient resilience. Reporting to the Director of Responsible Sourcing, this position plays a key role in translating strategy into on-the-ground programs, roadmaps and performance measures that strengthen supply chain resilience and deliver measurable environmental and social outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible Sourcing Ingredient Strategy
* Develop, implement, and manage responsible sourcing strategies, roadmaps and program implementation plans for assigned priority agricultural supply chains to deliver measurable environmental, social, and business outcomes.
* Assess and provide recommendations on investment opportunities that strengthen agricultural productivity, farmer livelihoods, supply continuity, and ingredient resilience.
* Identify and prioritize material environmental and social risks, including climate impacts, biodiversity loss, water stress, deforestation, labor risks, and farmer vulnerability to inform strategic priorities based on landscape-, sourcing region-, and supply shed-level analyses.
* Support implementation of risk-based supplier and farm-level due diligence activities, including risk assessment, mitigation planning, corrective action tracking, remediation support, and continuous improvement.
* Partner with Human Rights, Sustainability, Procurement, suppliers, and external stakeholders to support initiatives that strengthen farmer and worker financial resilience in priority sourcing regions.
* Partner with Procurement, Sustainability, R&D, Manufacturing, and Legal teams to integrate responsible sourcing objectives into sourcing strategies and business decision-making.
* Support development and continuous improvement of ingredient-specific due diligence, traceability, monitoring, and risk management approaches, reflecting evolving regulations, best practices, stakeholder expectations, and business priorities.


Supplier Engagement & Program Implementation
* Build and manage supplier, NGO, industry, and other external partner relationships to design and deliver responsible sourcing ingredient programs.
* Collaborate with suppliers and implementation partners to design and execute locally appropriate interventions that improve sustainability outcomes, farmer resilience, and supply chain resilience.
* Establish supplier and program performance expectations, monitoring mechanisms, and improvement plans to deliver intended environmental and social outcomes.
* Identify implementation risks, gaps, and resource needs, developing mitigation plans and escalating issues when necessary.

Data, Performance Management & Reporting
* Monitor and report progress against responsible sourcing ingredient sustainability commitments and programs.
* Maintain program data, documentation, and evidence necessary to support internal reporting, external disclosures, audits, compliance requirements.
* Develop insights and recommendations from supplier and program performance data to inform continuous improvement, strategy adjustments, and investment decisions.
* Identify opportunities and utilize digital tools to improve data quality, verification, automation, measurement systems, and supplier or implementing partner reporting capabilities.
* Collaborate with Sustainability, Legal, Compliance, and Internal Audit teams to support regulatory readiness and evolving due diligence expectations.


External Engagement & Industry Collaboration
* Represent Hershey in industry groups, multi-stakeholder initiatives, technical working groups, and collaborative programs relevant to assigned ingredients and sustainability priorities.
* Engage with suppliers, peer companies, NGOs, technical and implementation partners to advance collective action and shared learning
* Engage with external partners, industry coalitions, and peer companies to identify emerging tools, standards, methodologies, and best practices that can enhance responsible sourcing programs and ingredient strategies, and bring external insights back into internal strategy
* Serve as a subject matter expert to Procurement, Sustainability, and business partners on assigned ingredient supply chains and sustainability topics.

Qualifications

Education


* Bachelor's degree required
* Master's degree strongly preferred in a relevant field such as Sustainability, Agriculture, Environmental Studies, International Development, Public Policy, Supply Chain or Business

Experience
* 5+ years of experience in responsible sourcing, sustainability, agriculture, or supply chain, ideally at a food, beverage, or agriculture company
* Experience and understanding in complex, multi-tier global supply chains and sourcing practices, including traceability tools, supplier audits, and farm-level due diligence, regenerative agriculture, sustainable sourcing, and/or farmer livelihood initiatives.
* Working knowledge of environmental and social risks in agricultural supply chains, including deforestation, water use, soil health, and/or labor practices
* Familiarity with GHG accounting concepts (particularly Scope 3) and land-based sustainability metrics (e.g., hectares under regenerative practices) preferred
* Knowledge of standards and frameworks, such as SAI Regenerating Together Framework, Land Sector Removal Standards and Land Sector Removal Guidance, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), OECD Due Diligence Guidance, and regulations including EUDR and CSDDD.
* Experience engaging directly with suppliers and external partners, including NGOs and industry coalitions
* Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple supplier relationships and workstreams simultaneously
* Demonstrated digital mindset, including experience utilizing digital solutions such as traceability platforms, supplier management systems, geospatial data, satellite monitoring, business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI), automation solutions, or AI-enabled tools to support sustainability and supply chain programs, reporting, decision-making, business processes or program performance
* Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex sustainability topics for varied audiences
* Collaborative working style and demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams, build trust across partners, and deliver results in a matrixed, complex operating environment
