Target hiring range for this position will be between $64,480 - $80,000. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

ABOUT US

The Implementation Intelligence Lab, led by Dr. Faraz Ahmad, develops, validates, and implements novel AI-enabled and digital health tools to improve health care delivery and advance scientific discovery. We are particularly interested in translating advances in AI into real-world clinical workflows, health system operations, and research infrastructure.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (I.AIM) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time Clinical Research Associate to manage and contribute to a research portfolio in the areas of artificial intelligence and cardiovascular disease, with a particular focus on development and implementation of digital health tools to address health care delivery problems and support research infrastructure.

This role will involve operational and scientific contributions to the Implementation Intelligence Lab, partnering with the Northwestern Medicine Information Services team to develop and embed AI tools into clinical care, validating third-party tools for regulatory approval, and partnering with Feinberg School of Medicine stakeholders and NUCATS (Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute) to build infrastructure for scalable AI research and deployment.

The Clinical Research Associate will work primarily with Dr. Ahmad, a physician-scientist and the Associate Director of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute Center for AI. In addition to working with I.AIM and the Center for AI, the position will involve working closely and collaborating with other partners across Northwestern University and Northwestern Medicine, such as Northwestern Medicine Information Services, NM Ventures, NUCATS (Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute), and central offices at Northwestern University.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Managing day-to-day operations of projects within the Implementation Intelligence Lab, including coordinating interdisciplinary research teams with internal and external collaborators, tracking deliverables, and supervising research staff and trainees.
  • Conducting study procedures (e.g., leading semi-structured interviews and co-design workshops).
  • Making substantial contributions to the scientific work of the Implementation Intelligence Lab (i.e., conception and design of projects; acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of data; drafting and revising manuscripts, communicating results to multidisciplinary stakeholders)
  • Assisting the Principal Investigator, in collaboration with the Research Administrator, to prepare extramural funding support applications and manage the administration of already funded sponsored research projects.
  • Developing the operational and clinical research skills of the team (e.g., writing standard operating procedures for the lab, identifying didactic and experiential development opportunities for research staff, providing guidance on project management and compliance with institutional requirements)
REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in public health, health services research, health informatics, health care quality and safety, clinical research, or a related field.
  • Ability to formulate research problems, design experiments, and implement solutions.

  • A strong and/or developing record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience managing human subjects research studies, including IRB protocol development and submissions, end-to-end study coordination, data collection and analysis, and dissemination of findings.

  • Personnel management experience, such as supervision of other research staff, students, or trainees.

  • Experience with REDCap, electronic health records, statistical analysis software, and reference management software.

  • Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, compassion, creativity, and kindness.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge technical, clinical, operational, and lay audiences.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

NICE TO HAVE
  • Experience working on research or quality improvement projects implemented in real-world clinical settings.
  • Content knowledge related to AI, digital health, clinical decision support, implementation science, human-centered design, and/or cardiology
  • Experience contributing to extramural funding support applications.
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured health data (e.g., clinical notes, imaging, electrocardiograms).
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software, R, Git, Docker, and Microsoft Azure.
