The Salvation Army Service Extension Unit located in Marion, Illinois, is looking for a highly motivated, self-starter to join our team as the new Southern Illinois Service Extension Director. This is a salaried position that comes with a generous benefits package. Starting pay is $60,000 to $65,000 per year.

The objective of this position is to ensure The Salvation Army maintains a vibrant presence in Marion, IL through The Salvation Army Service Center. This objective will be achieved primarily through a focus on fundraising, community relations, program development, and volunteer management. It also provides a support role in the 23 counties in the Southern Illinois Area.

Essential Functions:



  1. Develop and implement a strategic plan that focuses on financial sustainability and missional alignment for Southern Illinois Service Extension
  2. Responsible for meeting fundraising goals through corporate and private donor engagement, such as the Red Kettle Campaign, as well as grant funding opportunities
  3. Develop, engage and support current and new Service Unit committee members, staff, and volunteers.
  4. Provide operational oversight and leadership for the Southern Illinois Service Extension; ensuring business records are kept, policies, procedures, and best practices are adhered to, and manage the procurement and maintenance of products and services
  5. Coordinate with Divisional Director of Service Extension on annual Southern Illinois budget preparation and review. Be fiscally responsible for the budgets.
  6. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of current programming and work with committee members and staff in developing new programming to meet community needs.
  7. Maintain relationships with Southern Illinois Service Extensions to further The Salvation Army's mission throughout the Southern Illinois region.
  8. Serve as staff contact for the advisory board, working with the advisory board chair to set meeting agendas and advisory board goals, establish committees to the advisory board, maintain accurate minutes and advisory board records.


Minimum Qualifications:

Related bachelor's degree with four (4) years' experience in related fields, or other combinations of education and experience with at least one year of supervisory experience. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, like working with others and support The Salvation Army mission. Must become familiar with all Salvation Army functions and programs supported by service extension. Team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of donor and volunteer database software is a plus. Requires a valid drivers' license and pass The Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Report check.

Travel:

Up to 15% travel in regional area.

Physical and Working Conditions:

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment including using a computer, answering phones, etc. Must be capable of regularly lifting 20 pounds and sometimes up to 40 pounds. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. However, during a response to a disaster, the work environment will most likely reflect the affected area. Working outdoors will reflect seasonal weather, and the initial response could require intensive manual labor operations.
