About the Department/office: Summary: The Orthopaedic Cast Technician is responsible for providing comprehensive Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and brace support across the entire Orthopaedic clinic and associated surgery center. This role ensures timely, accurate, and safe delivery of braces and related DME to patients and clinical teams, while maintaining efficient inventory control and staff education. Incentive: $5,000 Commitment Incentive paid out in 6 installments over 3 years. Responsibilities: *This role is for a Durable Medical Equipment Coordinator responsible for performing a variety of duties to ensure the DME program at their clinic site is run efficiently, safely, and profitably *Fit and educate patients on many different types of orthopedic devices and DME per provider orders, ensuring proper sizing, comfort, and understanding of usage, care, and expected outcomes within manufactures guidelines *Build and maintain collaborative relationships with patients, providers, clinical staff, vendors, and suppliers to ensure seamless and high-quality care delivery *Review inventory PAR levels and leakage, order stock, and stocking received inventory through third-party DME software (Vision) *Train and provide oversight to verify products are being applied to patients within manufacturer and safety guidelines *Work is typically performed in clinical environments such as cast rooms and patient care areas, with adherence to infection control and safety standards *This role ensures that all prescribed orthopedic devices are properly applied, tracked, and billed in compliance with payer requirements, while also supporting operational efficiency through inventory and audit coordination *Following up with any patient questions/concerns about DME products and billing issues *Review products, introduce them to faculty, and follow process to add them to Epic preference list and educate staff *Support inventory management and audit activities in collaboration with the DME Coordinator, and promptly report equipment issues or shortages to leadership *Perform additional duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of orthopedic and DME services, adapting to evolving patient and departmental needs *Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served *This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent *It is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required of the incumbent *Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties *The Durable Medical Equipment Technician plays a critical role in delivering high-quality orthopedic support by fitting and educating patients on durable medical equipment (DME), and ensuring accurate documentation and billing Other Information Other information: Job Details Legal Employer: STATE Entity: UNC Faculty Physicians Organization Unit: SOM Amb Care-ACC-Orthopa Work Type: Full Time Standard Hours Per Week: 40.00 Salary Range:$19.98 - $28.54 per hour (Hiring Range) Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity Work Assignment Type: Onsite Work Schedule: Day Job Location of Job: US:NC:Chapel Hill Exempt From Overtime: Exempt: No This is a State position employed by UNC Health Care System with UNC Health benefits.
