What to Expect
The Operations and Systems Engineering team builds the systems, automation, and AI-assisted workflows that keep direct materials flowing reliably to Tesla's factories, distribution centers, and service and installation sites worldwide - Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP), and forecasting. As production volume and fleet size grow, these systems have to scale with them. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role at the intersection of supply chain operations and software engineering. You'll find the highest-leverage problems, build and prove solutions, and drive them to production - working across planning, logistics, warehousing, and software engineering globally. The systems you own support multiple factories, hundreds of service sites, and multiple planning teams and suppliers, governing a multi-million-dollar inventory portfolio. Success is measured in business impact - inventory reduction, parts availability, cost-to-serve, and planner productivity - not systems shipped.
What You'll Do
- Drive inefficiency, manual effort, and waste out of the planning stack - challenge and remove processes, workarounds, and system rules that don't need to exist, and automate the rest across MRP, DRP, and forecasting
- Own real solutions end-to-end, working directly with planners, factory, vendors, warehouse, logistics, and software engineers; build automation and lightweight tools yourself (AI-assisted where it helps), and hand off to software engineering to scale what's proven
- Be the go-to expert on the planning systems and how planners work - keep the essential SOPs, training, and AI context current, and build the credibility to influence decisions across departments
- Partner with business teams and stay jointly accountable for outcomes, moving the numbers that matter (inventory costs/excess, parts availability and service level, cost-to-serve, and planner productivity), setting and tracking shared targets, root-causing when they move, and keeping the underlying data trustworthy
- Own the automated processes, parameters, and models, monitoring outcomes, tuning and adjusting the algorithms behind them, optimizing for cost and responsiveness, and debugging in production, pulling in suppliers, carriers, and support engineers to resolve issues fast
- Prioritize features and initiatives against far more demand than can ever be built, shaping the roadmap from global feedback and making sure what ships behaves as expected before, during, and after deployment
- Decide what's worth building and why, document it clearly, reuse before building net-new, partner with software engineers on design, and drive delivery until what ships solves the real problem, not just what was asked
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Science, Supply Chain, Operations Research, or a related field or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
- 4-5+ years in planning, supply chain, manufacturing, or technical operations or comparable depth building software products or working hands-on with ERP data
- Hands-on with data and building, independently pulling and analyzing large, messy datasets (SQL) to find root cause, and take a problem from insight to a working solution (prototype or shipped tool), not just requirements
- Supply chain, logistics, or distribution experience (planning, MRP, DRP, forecasting, or warehouse/transportation ops), ideally with hands-on ERP (SAP or Oracle) and how its data maps into custom-built systems
- Experience building tools, dashboards, or automations that others use, while integrating data across sources (Python, APIs), not just one-off analysis
- Proven proficiency with AI and agentic workflows to accelerate analysis, prototyping, and delivery
- Track record of driving cross-functional decisions and delivery across IT, operations, and finance
