THE POSITION

The Commonwealth Accountant Manager position with the Bureau of Accounting and Financial Management (BAFM) offers a chance to guide important financial operations across the state. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position directs major accounting operations, guides staff, and supports agencies in meeting statewide financial standards. It plays an important role in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong fiscal practices. As a Commonwealth Accountant Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Unit Leadership: Direct the goals, planning, and daily operations of the General Accounting unit
  • Regulatory Guidance: Help develop accounting policies and ensure procedures follow laws and regulations
  • Operations Oversight: Manage accounting and budgetary control functions and review financial reports and data
  • Agency Support: Work with agencies to interpret laws, resolve issues, and support reporting requirements
  • Process Improvement: Recommend updates to practices and guide staff through special projects and evaluations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, with occasional in-office days when work dictates such requirements. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $78,925.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Administrative Officer 3 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six years of experience in progressively responsible and varied office management or staff work, including experience in personnel management, budgeting, or procurement; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a four-year college or university; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have a minimum of 24 college credits in accounting
  • You must have three or more years of professional accounting experience.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience with Governmental GAAP or grant accounting
