Senior Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity Technical Specialist to support a mission-critical DR/BC initiative focused on establishing, documenting, and validating recovery processes for critical enterprise systems.

This role will be responsible for identifying systems requiring recovery, developing detailed recovery procedures, executing restoration and DR testing, validating system functionality, and documenting recovery processes. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with disaster recovery, infrastructure restoration, backup/recovery, database recovery, and enterprise application testing.

Experience supporting Ellucian Banner ERP or similar enterprise ERP environments is desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and document mission-critical systems, applications, databases, and dependencies requiring disaster recovery.

Develop and document detailed DR recovery procedures, runbooks, and recovery workflows.

Support the duplication/recovery of a key Banner ERP component within the designated DR environment.

Restore systems and applications from backup and recovery solutions.

Establish and validate DR database connections and application dependencies.

Verify system and application accessibility following recovery.

Execute and coordinate DR recovery and restoration testing.

Validate that recovered systems are fully functional and available to end users.

Coordinate with technical and business stakeholders during user acceptance testing (UAT).

Document test results, recovery issues, gaps, and remediation requirements.

Help establish a repeatable and sustainable DR/BC testing process for critical systems.

Provide clear technical documentation and recommendations to improve recovery readiness.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity professional who has experience taking systems through the full recovery lifecycle-from recovery planning and documentation through restoration, connectivity validation, testing, and user acceptance.

Required / Strong Experience

Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC)

DR planning, recovery procedures, and runbook development

Hands-on system restoration and recovery testing

Backup and restore processes

Infrastructure and enterprise application recovery

Database recovery and connectivity

DR site operations and recovery environments

System/application validation and troubleshooting

User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

Technical documentation

Preferred

Ellucian Banner ERP experience

Higher education IT experience

Experience recovering enterprise ERP environments

Experience with database replication/recovery

Experience conducting formal DR exercises and recovery simulations

Experience defining or validating recovery objectives such as RTO/RPO

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will help establish a documented, repeatable DR/BC process and demonstrate that critical systems can be successfully recovered.

Success includes:

Critical systems identified and recovery procedures documented

DR environment successfully configured/duplicated

Systems restored from backup

DR database connections established

System access verified

Recovery procedures tested and validated

Full application functionality confirmed through UAT

Recovery gaps and remediation actions clearly documented
