Senior Radiation Therapist - Part-time

Under general supervision but according to established procedures, treats patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. In doing so, prepares treatment room, explains procedures to patients, positions patients, administers treatments and monitors patient during therapy sessions in order to ensure patient comfort and be alert for changes in condition.

Education:
2 year training program in radiation therapy

Licensures/Certifications:
* Registered in radiation therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
* Licensed by State of Maryland
Heart Saver (CPR Certification).

Experience:
5+ years experience in Radiation Therapy

Skills:
* Thorough knowledge of equipment operations, radiation physics, radiobiology, anatomy and physiology, quality assurance and patient care technique

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews patients' treatment charts for prescription, monitor units, prescribed dose and set up parameters to accurately deliver a course of radiation therapy.
  • Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern, and support for patients, visitors, medial staff, and coworkers on a consistent basis.
  • Delivers radiation treatment according to written prescription and treatment plan.
  • Provides safety and patient care through the consistent practice of departmental procedures for treatment administration.
  • Recognized deviation from prescribed treatment delivery and reports all deviations to the chief therapist/ physicist.
  • Assures the quality of treatment delivery throughout the complete and accurate documentation of treatment records.
  • Explains treatment procedures to patient and/or family. Refers medical questions to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs as needed in all treatment procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for quality assurance of the treatment machine under the direction of the medical physicist and department manager.
  • Produces electronic portal images/imaging as scheduled Adjust treatment fields as indicated.
  • Completes the daily treatment schedule. Maintains an accurate record of procedures including billing information and codes.
  • Attends chart rounds and or QI meetings at the direction of the Chief Therapist.
  • Provides on call for treatment of emergency patients. Flexibility to work outside of regularly scheduled office hours to provide patient care.
  • Supports the Chief RTT in the daily running of treatment machines and CT to ensure the schedule runs in an organized fashion.
  • Helps train and supervise less experienced RTT staff.
  • Provides rotating on call for treatment of emergency patients Saturday and Sunday from 7:30am - 4:00pm.
  • Supports the Chief RTT in the daily running of treatment machines and CT to ensure the schedule runs in an organized fashion. Helps train and supervise less experienced RTT staff.
  • Will take rotating call as scheduled by Chief Radiation Therapist Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 am - 4:00pm
  • Participates in RQI program at GBMC hospital

Pay Range

$37.72 - $67.89

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
