Job Description

Metronome is seeking a highly motivated UI/UX Designer with demonstrated expertise in tools like Figma, wireframing, user experience research, and modern application design to support mission-critical software development efforts for the U.S. Government.

This position will play a key role in translating complex user workflows into intuitive, accessible, and scalable digital experiences. The successful candidate will work closely with product owners, software engineers, data scientists, and end users to design applications that enhance operational effectiveness and improve user adoption across intelligence and defense environments.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of Agile software development and can rapidly create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and design systems that align with modern cloud-native application architectures.

Key Responsibilities

User-Centered Design

  • Lead discovery sessions, user interviews, and workflow analysis to understand mission and customer needs.

  • Create user journeys, personas, task flows, storyboards, and information architectures.

  • Design intuitive and effective user experiences for web-based and cloud-native applications.

  • Advocate for usability, accessibility, and human-centered design principles throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Transform complex operational requirements into simple and actionable user experiences.

Wireframing & Prototyping

  • Develop low-fidelity and high-fidelity wireframes using tools like Figma.

  • Create interactive prototypes to validate concepts with stakeholders and end users.

  • Produce visual designs, mockups, and reusable component libraries.

  • Establish and maintain design systems that promote consistency across applications.

  • Iterate designs rapidly based on stakeholder feedback and user testing results.

Agile Product Development

  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Engineers, and DevSecOps teams.

  • Participate in Sprint Planning, backlog grooming, design reviews, demos, and retrospectives.

  • Translate user needs into epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and design artifacts.

  • Support iterative development and continuous delivery within Agile/Scrum environments.

  • Balance user needs with technical constraints and mission priorities.

Design Quality & Innovation

  • Conduct usability testing and gather quantitative and qualitative user feedback.

  • Measure user experience effectiveness and recommend improvements.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage emerging UX tools, AI-enabled experiences, and modern interaction patterns.

  • Promote best practices in accessibility, responsiveness, and user engagement.

  • Ensure design decisions support scalability, maintainability, and long-term product sustainability.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance.

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience Design, Graphic Design, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5+ years of professional UI/UX design experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise using tools like Figma for wireframing, prototyping, design systems, and collaboration.

  • Experience designing responsive web applications and enterprise software solutions.

  • Strong understanding of UX research methodologies and usability testing.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum software development environments.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Experience collaborating directly with software engineering teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, or Federal Government programs.

  • Familiarity with cloud-native application environments.

  • Experience designing data analytics, intelligence, geospatial, or mission-focused applications.

  • Knowledge of Section 508 and accessibility requirements.

  • Familiarity with DevSecOps and modern software delivery practices.

  • Experience supporting Kubernetes- or microservices-based applications.

  • Understanding of event-driven workflows and complex operational dashboards.

  • Experience working in classified or secure computing environments.
