Position Overview

McGough is seeking field leadership professionals to support our National Travel - Advanced Technology team delivering complex data center and mission-critical projects across the country.

This is a multi-level requisition for Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, and Senior Superintendent opportunities. The appropriate level will be determined during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, demonstrated capabilities, and project needs, and will be disclosed at the time of offer.

Depending on level, this role will support, manage, or lead field operations from preconstruction through construction, commissioning, closeout, and turnover. Responsibilities increase in scope, independence, and leadership by level-from supporting portions of field operations to leading all field activities on large and complex projects.

All levels are responsible for promoting a safe, productive, and collaborative jobsite while building strong relationships with clients, design partners, subcontractors, suppliers, and McGough team members.

Qualifications

Required

Assistant Superintendent

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3-7 years of construction-related experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and lead
  • Basic computer proficiency

Superintendent

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 10+ years of construction-related experience
  • Experience supervising field staff, Assistant Superintendents, and subcontractors on large-scale projects
  • Demonstrated leadership and continuous improvement experience
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, and/or comparable construction technology

Senior Superintendent

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 15+ years of construction-related experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading field operations on large, complex projects
  • Experience supervising and developing Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, foremen, and field teams
  • Ability to lead field planning, staffing, scheduling, and coordination across major project scopes
  • Demonstrated leadership and continuous improvement experience
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, and/or comparable construction technology

All Levels

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build productive relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and project teams
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment

Preferred

  • Two- or four-year degree in construction or related field
  • Data center, mission-critical, or large-scale project experience
  • Current OSHA 30 certification
  • Current CPR/First Aid training
  • Experience with Lean construction, pull planning, and continuous improvement
  • Experience with Procore or equivalent construction management platforms

Office & Travel

This position supports McGough's National Travel - Advanced Technology business and may be assigned to projects throughout the United States with your desired location taken into consideration. Current and upcoming projects in ND, TX and NC.

Travel: Overnight and extended travel is required based on project location and business needs. Project assignments and work locations may change as projects are completed.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Responsibilities will vary by position level, with increasing ownership, independence, decision-making authority, project complexity, and field leadership expectations.

Preconstruction & Field Planning

  • Support or lead preconstruction planning, including site logistics, project schedules, crisis management plans, site-specific requirements, and safety planning
  • Coordinate field requirements with Project Management and other project stakeholders
  • Participate in subcontractor selection, procurement planning, RFIs, and material and equipment coordination
  • Plan site staffing, resources, equipment, and logistics to support successful project execution

Field Operations & Subcontractor Management

  • Support or lead daily field operations and coordination of McGough field staff, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Conduct daily huddles, weekly work planning, and jobsite coordination
  • Coordinate material deliveries, manpower, equipment, and site logistics
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and project partners

Scheduling & Production

  • Support, develop, and manage project schedules appropriate to position level
  • Coordinate closely with Project Management to maintain current and accurate schedules
  • Lead or participate in pull planning, weekly work planning, and Lean construction activities
  • Monitor field production, identify constraints, and proactively address schedule risks
  • Coordinate construction activities with procurement, commissioning, and turnover milestones

Safety & Quality

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the project
  • Lead or participate in job safety meetings, orientations, inspections, and other safety activities
  • Ensure compliance with McGough, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements
  • Partner with Quality Control and Project Management to implement project-specific quality plans
  • Support pre-installation planning, inspections, observations, punch lists, and other quality-control activities

Cost, Documentation & Project Controls

  • Monitor field labor, materials, equipment, and associated project costs
  • Partner with Project Management to review cost projections and address potential issues
  • Maintain accurate and current field documentation, including drawings, logs, inspection records, and as-built information
  • At senior levels, manage overall field labor, material, and equipment budgets and support resource planning across project needs

Project & Team Leadership

  • Partner with Project Management to drive overall project success
  • Mentor and develop field staff, Assistant Superintendents, Superintendents, and foremen as appropriate to position level
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, standard work, Lean methodologies, and continuous improvement
  • At senior levels, lead field leadership meetings, assess staffing needs, and ensure appropriate resources are deployed
  • Foster strong partnerships across McGough project and field teams

Commissioning & Closeout

  • Coordinate field activities required for punch list completion, commissioning, final inspections, owner training, and turnover
  • Ensure project documentation and as-built information are complete and accurate
  • Partner with Project Management and commissioning teams to successfully transition the project through closeout and turnover

Employees will regularly visit construction jobsites and may be exposed to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme temperatures. Jobsite access may require climbing ladders and stairs and walking long distances or on uneven surfaces.
