What We Are Looking For

  • 2+ years of cost accounting, project accounting, audit, or construction accounting experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Experience with construction accounting systems, including CMiC, is a plus
  • Located in or willing to work from Madison, Wisconsin


What You'll Do

As a Project Cost Accountant with Findorff, you'll play a critical role in supporting the financial success of our construction projects. You'll partner closely with Project Managers and project teams to provide accurate cost reporting, billing support, financial analysis, and accounting expertise throughout the lifecycle of a project. Because every project is unique, you'll have opportunities to solve complex challenges, improve processes, and contribute directly to project performance while supporting strong financial outcomes.



  • Support Project Financial Performance: Partner with Project Managers to monitor job costs, forecast project financial performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and help resolve financial issues before they impact project outcomes.



  • Manage Cost Reporting and Analysis: Review project cost activity, prepare and analyze financial reports, perform monthly job cost reviews, analyze cash flow, and provide insights that support informed business decisions.



  • Drive Billing and Contract Administration: Coordinate owner billings, review and post change orders, maintain billing documentation, and ensure project accounting activities align with contract requirements and company standards.



  • Maintain Financial Accuracy: Prepare journal entries, review project budgets, monitor cost allocations, track equipment and project-related expenses, and ensure financial records remain accurate, complete, and audit-ready.



  • Collaborate Across Project Teams: Work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Accounting teams to support project execution, participate in project financial reviews, and provide trusted guidance on accounting processes and financial reporting.



  • Improve Systems and Processes: Identify opportunities to enhance financial processes, document system improvements, recommend solutions, and independently resolve complex accounting issues related to assigned projects.
