AI/ML Instructor - Casual

The Technological Leadership Institute (TLI) and the AI Hub at the University of Minnesota occasionally hire employees on a casual basis. These positions perform a variety of non-academic and/or academic work responsibilities and are limited to no more than 14 hours per week.. Appointments are based on need, funding, and performance. Positions will be housed in TLI.

This does not constitute a posting for vacancies but establishes a pool of applicants should an opening occur. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the year and will be contacted if they are being considered for an open position.

Individuals in these positions will design, develop, and deliver non-academic curricula focused on upskilling and reskilling employees with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML). The training will equip employees with essential skills in artificial intelligence (AI) development and application, with a strong emphasis on ensuring the safe, ethical, and responsible adoption of these transformative technologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructors will design, develop, and deliver curriculum for various modules. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Collaborate with the project curriculum team to develop course materials as outlined in the project workplan. This may include defining learning outcomes, project schedules, assignments, and learning assessments.
• Upload course materials into the Canvas learning management system.
• Deliver the course to project participants.
• Communicate with participants through Canvas, office hours, email, or other methods of communication for the duration of the course.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Demonstrated distinguished track record in the AI/ML-related field
• Professional and/or teaching experience related to assigned instruction responsibilities may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree or higher is preferred
• Proficient knowledge of AI concepts, including machine learning, deep learning, and agentic AI, and how models are developed, trained, and validated
• Understanding of the various landscapes: operational, ethical, legal, data compliance, and regulatory aspects; understanding of regulatory science and the future of AI in regulatory science
• Understanding of the roles of various personnel and how they intersect to ensure ethical, legal, and privacy compliance
• Pedagogical practices that are engaging, motivating, and tailored to the needs of adult learners
• Experience in teaching adult learners and creating quality curriculum and assessments, both in person and in virtual learning environments
• Ability to translate complex and technical concepts into clear, accessible language and provide opportunities for learners to connect what they are learning to their specific work flow and role
• Familiarity with AI tools and their use cases/application across the industry, such as administrative automation, predictive analytics, and algorithms specific to diagnoses and treatment
• Strong communication skills, including creating feedback and communication that is clear, timely, solution-focused, and positive

Pay Range: $130 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
