Job Description

Kalman & Company is seeking to hire an experienced Government Contractor Accountant. This team member will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records while supporting financial reporting, month-end close, compliance, and operational accounting activities. This position reports to Kalman's Controller and also works closely with Contracts, & Operations to ensure timely and accurate financial information.

Responsibilities



  • Support month-end close activities, including general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and journal entry preparation/posting.
  • Analyze revenue, unbilled activity, expenses, assets, liabilities, and equity transactions to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate unusual variances.
  • Review and post accounts payable and employee expense reports and ensure compliance with FAR, US GAAP, and cost accounting standards.
  • Coordinate with Contracts/Operations/Payroll to ensure proper accounting treatment of customer, employee, and vendor transactions.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing, Contracts, Project Management, and Operations to resolve accounting issues.
  • Entry of purchase orders in support of operations as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for accounting guidance across the organization.
  • Reviewing billable charges (including AP invoices and travel expenses) in compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) for all contract types.
  • Review internal employee travel expense reports in ERP system to ensure compliance with FAR regulations and company travel policies.
  • Review Accounts Payable invoices for accuracy, proper documentation, and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Ensure proper GL/ project /billable coding for all expenses.
  • Extract, review, and compile supporting documentation (e.g., travel receipts, subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports) required to support costs and invoices billed to the customers.
  • Identify and flag unallowable costs in accordance with government regulations and contractual terms.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation and review of documentation related to allowable and unallowable costs.
  • Reconcile corporate credit cards and related expenses monthly
  • Maintenance of multi-state organization

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • 3 plus years of government contract accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of Government Contracting Accounting including FAR Part 30 Cost account standards (DCAA requirements), U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and Government travel regulations.
  • Experience working with ERP/accounting systems (Jamis Prime preferred but not required).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Salary: $65,000 to $85,000 per year based on experience
