What to Expect
The Technical Writer uses people skills, technical expertise, and writing skills alongside Engineers and other workers to document the details of manufacturing processes and equipment operation. The ideal candidate understands high volume manufacturing, can clearly communicate complex processes using simple instructions, and is excellent in cross functional task organization and execution. The candidate is familiar with technical writing, can capture live information quickly using notes, recordings, and photographs, and then transform this information into accurate instructions and visual aids. Manufacturing Instructions (MIs) are the singular record of Tesla's processes, supporting departments like Production, Maintenance, and Quality.

What You'll Do
  • Work within a dynamic, high volume manufacturing setting, including close quarters, concrete floors, large areas
  • Receive and process work requests for live capture, revision updates, driving approvals, or process improvement tasks
  • Organize competing demands, meeting deadlines across multiple documents and projects simultaneously
  • Own tasks to completion and proactively communicate status updates to all stakeholders
  • Start with live capture notes or subject matter expert submitted content and develop finished, standardized instructions
  • Drive developed instructions through multiple reviews for cross functional approvals
  • Support Training and Development team initiatives

What You'll Bring
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with a proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Excellent listening and observation skills, organization, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills, finding solutions to urgent tasks while maintaining standards, owning tasks to completion, and communicating proactively with stakeholders
  • Demonstrated excellence in document management and digital photography: including styles and template; capturing live images, and editing for size, brightness, contrast, rotation, cropping, etc.
  • Ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines, simultaneously managing multiple documents and projects
  • Experience in a high volume manufacturing setting is a plus
  • Degree in Engineering or training in technical disciplines is a plus, or equivalent experience
