BACKGROUND

Trinity University is a secular, independent, private institution, founded in 1869. The Carlos Alvarez School of Arts and Humanities, endowed with a gift of $25 million, is at the center of Trinity's liberal arts education. Classical Studies at Trinity is a vibrant department with six tenured / tenure-track faculty and strong connections with other departments on campus, including Anthropology, Art History, Philosophy, and Religion. We encourage our students to pursue undergraduate research, often in collaboration with faculty, and we have been active participants in our university's summer undergraduate research program. The department participates in a faculty-led study abroad summer course in Rome and in a faculty-led archaeological dig in Cyprus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching

Teach Classical Greek at all levels and Latin to the intermediate level. Teach both lower and upper-level courses in the candidate's area of interest and expertise. Offer courses that complement departmental offerings and contribute to the Pathways general education curriculum, including the First Year Experience, under a (typically) 3-2 teaching load. Advise departmental majors and minors.

Research

Maintain a consistent and productive program of scholarship, to include publication of research, presentations of papers at academic conferences, attendance at professional meetings, and participation in professional organizations.

Service

Provide appropriate service to the department, the university, and the profession.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Required: Ph.D. or A.B.D. in Classics or related field. A.B.D. candidates must present evidence that Ph.D. will have been completed and accepted no later than August 2027.

Preferred: Teaching experience, as Instructor of Record or Teaching Assistant (or equivalent) in an undergraduate course related to ancient Greek, Latin, or Classics.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred: The ideal candidate will have a facility for interdisciplinary teaching and interest in mentoring students in undergraduate research projects, including in the summer.
