Accounting Manager (Financial Reporting & Operations) Location: New York, NY (Hybrid - 3 days/week in-office) Compensation: $130,000 - $145,000 base + bonus The Opportunity: We are seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee daily accounting operations, lead financial close cycles, and support financial reporting for a leading global capital markets and exchange platform. Reporting to the US Controller, this role serves as a key functional lead owning period-end closes, ensuring a robust internal control environment, and acting as a technical subject matter expert for cross-functional business partners. This is an ideal position for a CPA with strong US GAAP expertise and enterprise GL experience who thrives on driving process optimization, system enhancements, and automation. Responsibilities Financial Close & Reporting: Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Prepare and review complex journal entries, account reconciliations, trial balance reviews, variance analyses, and regulatory reporting deliverables in compliance with US GAAP. Technical Accounting & Controls: Partner with business units to determine proper accounting treatment for new transactions. Maintain a robust control environment and adhere to strict reporting timelines. Systems Ownership (Workday): Serve as the functional owner for accounting workflows within Workday, driving customization decisions, module enhancements, and feature releases. Process Automation & AI Integration: Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, leverage modern technology (including AI tools like Google Gemini), and drive continuous operational efficiencies. Compliance & Tax: Review financial ratio calculations to ensure regulatory compliance and assist with tax reporting deliverables (e.g., GST/HST returns where applicable). Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and manage direct reports, setting clear annual goals, conducting performance evaluations, and providing ongoing professional guidance. Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting; active CPA designation (or equivalent) required. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of close processes and financial reporting. In-depth knowledge of US GAAP with the demonstrated ability to research and apply technical principles to novel business transactions. Proficiency with enterprise-grade accounting/GL systems such as Workday, Oracle, or SAP. Comfortable adopting and integrating new software, analytics platforms, and AI tools to increase workflow productivity. Exceptional verbal/written communication skills with a track record of leading process improvements. Preferred Qualifications: Alumni from a Big 4 or national accounting firm. Familiarity with US GAAP vs. IFRS reconciliations and differences. Prior experience managing, developing, or supervising junior accounting staff.
