Description

Your Role

Gensler's Northwest Regional Marketing & Communications team plays a critical role in shaping how the firm shows up in the market by driving growth, strengthening client relationships, attracting top talent, and amplifying Gensler's influence through integrated, insight-led marketing and communications strategies.

We are seeking a Regional Marketing Director (RMD) to serve as a strategic leader and trusted partner to Regional Managing Principals, Office Managing Directors, Practice Area Leaders, and Firmwide Marketing leadership. This role sits at the intersection of regional growth strategy, brand stewardship, business development, communications, and talent leadership.

The RMD will be a proven strategist, planner, and people leader who can balance high-level strategic vision with execution. They will lead an integrated team of marketing, communications, and PR professionals while developing regional plans, targets, and standards that support business growth and market differentiation. The ideal candidate thrives in a highly matrixed environment, brings clarity to complexity, and effectively translates firmwide priorities into regionally relevant and locally resonant strategies.

This leader will embody Gensler's Guiding Principles, champion a people-first culture, and actively develop the next generation of marketing and communications professionals across the region.

What You Will Do

Regional Strategy & Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic partner to Regional Managing Principals, Office Managing Directors, Practice Area Leaders, and Shared Service Leaders to drive regional growth, market positioning, and business expansion.
  • Develop an annual regional strategic plan alongside regional leadership.
  • Create integrated marketing, communications, and business development plans that align firmwide priorities with regional opportunities and measurable performance goals.
  • Leverage client insights, market intelligence, and competitive analysis to identify opportunities, allocate resources, and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Build alignment and drive execution across a complex, matrixed organization through collaboration, influence, and stakeholder engagement.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and inclusive team focused on professional development, succession planning, and long-term career growth.
  • Regularly assess team capabilities to identify strengths, development opportunities, resource gaps, and future talent needs.
  • Build organizational capability by recruiting, retaining, and developing top marketing and communications talent.
  • Serve as a coach-and-player, providing strategic leadership while directly contributing to high-priority initiatives when needed.

Business Development & Market Positioning

  • Partner with regional and local leadership, Client Relationship Leaders, Practice Area leaders, and sector-specific marketers to support growth in existing markets and expansion into new ones.
  • Provide strategic oversight for high-profile business development activities including pursuits and public engagements.
  • Leverage Gensler's research, thought leadership, and intellectual property to strengthen market relevance and support client engagement.

Communications, Brand & Content

  • Lead integrated internal and external communications strategies that strengthen brand visibility, employee engagement, and market positioning.
  • Partner with regional leadership to develop internal communication programs that foster connectivity, alignment, and shared purpose across offices and teams.
  • Oversee public relations, media engagement, social media strategy, thought leadership, awards programs, and executive visibility efforts.

Operations, Standards & Governance

  • Work with the Regional Managing Principals, Office Managing Directors, Practice Area and Studio leaders to develop the regional marketing and communications budgets, overseeing investments across pursuits, events, content creation, photography, video, awards, and related initiatives.
  • Oversee regional marketing operations, leveraging CRM platforms, business intelligence tools, email automation, social analytics, and emerging technologies to generate actionable insights.
  • Establish and drive standardization of marketing processes, tools, reporting, templates, and best practices in partnership with Firmwide Marketing teams.
  • Monitor performance, measure ROI, and deliver insights that inform strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Represent the region within Gensler's global marketing and communications network, sharing best practices and contributing to firmwide innovation.

Your Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, business development, or related disciplines, preferably within architecture, design, real estate, or professional services.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-office, geographically dispersed, and cross-functional teams within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Proven ability to build trusted partnerships with executive leadership and influence decision-making without direct authority.
  • Strong strategic planning skills with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans, measurable goals, and successful outcomes.
  • Experience creating and managing regional marketing plans, business development strategies, and performance targets.
  • Track record of leading through consensus while building alignment, trust, and commitment across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated success identifying organizational strengths, talent gaps, and development opportunities to build high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with strong design literacy and the ability to elevate creative output.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred), Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, social media platforms, marketing automation tools, and emerging visualization technologies.
