North State Bank has an exciting opportunity for a SBA Business Development Officer. The SBA Business Development Officer develops, evaluates and submits Small Business Loan applications in order to fund SBA and USDA Business & Industry loans for North State Bank. ***Candidates must reside in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi or Tennessee for consideration.***

What You'll Do Drive New Business Growth
  • Generate new SBA and USDA Business & Industry lending opportunities through prospecting, networking, referral development, and outside calling efforts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners, referral partners, and community organizations.
  • Develop and execute strategic marketing initiatives designed to expand lending opportunities within targeted markets.
  • Assist in promoting the Bank's full suite of products and services to support long-term client relationships.
Manage the Lending Process
  • Develop, evaluate, and submit government-guaranteed loan applications for SBA and USDA Business & Industry programs.
  • Gather, analyze, and prepare complete and accurate loan packages for underwriting review.
  • Guide borrowers through the lending process from initial inquiry through closing.
  • Partner with underwriting, processing, and servicing teams to ensure a smooth and timely client experience.
Build and Maintain Referral Networks
  • Develop and maintain a robust referral source database to support ongoing business development efforts.
  • Cultivate relationships with centers of influence, including accountants, attorneys, business advisors, and community partners.
  • Represent the Bank at industry events, networking functions, and business development activities.
  • Leverage referral relationships to identify new lending opportunities and strengthen market presence.
Support Portfolio Performance
  • Generate loans that meet established credit quality and portfolio performance standards.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Bank's credit policies, government lending programs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor loan pipelines and provide timely and accurate status updates to management.
  • Collaborate with the Servicing Department to assist with servicing-related activities when needed.
Contribute to Continuous Improvement
  • Stay informed on changes to SBA and USDA lending programs, regulations, and industry trends.
  • Complete required loan submission forms, financial spreads, and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives that support the growth of the Government Lending Division.
What You Bring Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of government lending experience within a community bank or similar financial services organization.
  • Strong knowledge of SBA and government lending regulations and programs.
  • Proven business development and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with USDA Business & Industry lending programs.
  • Established network of referral sources within the small business community.
  • Experience managing a lending pipeline and developing business through referrals and prospecting.
  • Knowledge of commercial credit analysis and underwriting principles.
