The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Shipyard Field Engineering is looking for a dynamic individual to work at the Newport News Shipyard Reactor Plant Contractors' Office (RPCO). This is a growth and development position that offers significant autonomy. This is a hands-on position where you can play a significant role in integrating the efforts of multiple stakeholders to ensure the success of naval nuclear ship maintenance and construction. The position requires 8-10 months of technical qualification (less with prior applicable experience). Following completion of qualification, the job title for the position will change to Field (RPCO) Engineer. RPCO Field Engineers function as independent company representatives at nuclear capable shipyards and Naval Bases. They conduct highly visible work with a broad spectrum of responsibility, including technical support, consultation, and oversight through the performance of installation, testing, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex equipment and nuclear systems. The position requires engagement in a shipboard industrial environment meeting directly with ship's force, senior shipyard leadership, and Naval Reactors. Field engineers are proactive in identifying and preventing problems to avoid impacts to cost and ship delivery schedules. They provide technical direction for problem resolution and oversee compliance with contractual requirements. Our engineers research, evaluate, and recommend new products and equipment upgrades as necessary. RPCO field engineers function independently to ensure the best interests of the Company. Because this is a NNL career development opportunity, it is strongly recommended that upon completion of a 3 - 5-year assignment in the field that the candidate return to the one of the laboratory locations to further their career as a leader within NNL. Pay Range
$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
