- Automation Focus: This is a hands-on Software Development Engineer in Test position focused on developing, executing, and maintaining automated tests for SKYGEN applications and APIs.
- Growth Opportunity: This role is designed for an early-career engineer who wants to build skills in software development, test automation, API testing, databases, and Quality Engineering.
- Tech Stack: Familiarity with C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, REST APIs, SQL, and test automation concepts is important. Exposure to Selenium, Playwright, API automation, CI/CD pipelines, and AI-assisted development/testing tools is preferred.
- Quality Engineering: You will work closely with Software Engineers, Product, QA, and other technical teams to help build quality into the software development lifecycle.
- Remote: This position is eligible to be fully remote. Ideally, candidates will be local to the Mequon area and able to come to the office for onsite work at least one day a week.
- Assessment: Candidates must take and pass an online technical assessment to be fully considered for this opportunity. The assessment will be sent prior to interviews.
What will YOU be doing for us? You will develop, execute, and maintain automated tests that help ensure the quality and reliability of SKYGEN's healthcare technology platforms. As an SDET I, you will work within established automation frameworks and engineering practices while building your technical skills across UI, API, integration, and data testing. You will partner with experienced automation engineers, Software Engineers, QA Analysts, and Product team members to understand application behavior, develop automated test coverage, investigate failures, and help provide faster feedback throughout the software development lifecycle. As your experience grows, you will take increasing ownership of automated tests, business workflows, and automation solutions. What will YOU be working on every day?
- Develop, maintain, execute, and troubleshoot automated tests for web applications, APIs, and backend services.
- Create automated tests using established automation frameworks, standards, and patterns.
- Develop UI automation using Selenium, Playwright, or similar browser automation technologies.
- Develop and execute REST API tests to validate requests, responses, status codes, schemas, authentication, and business behavior.
- Use SQL to create or identify test data and validate application results.
- Help automate business workflows that span applications, APIs, and databases.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Owners, QA Analysts, and other team members to understand requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Participate actively on an Agile scrum team, including refinement, planning, development, testing, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
- Review requirements and user stories to identify positive, negative, boundary, and regression test scenarios.
- Investigate automated test failures and work with team members to determine whether failures are caused by application defects, automation issues, test data, or environment problems.
- Learn to troubleshoot applications using logs, API responses, browser tools, database queries, and other diagnostic information.
- Create and maintain reusable test data and automated test components using established team patterns.
- Execute automated tests through CI/CD pipelines and help investigate pipeline test failures.
- Help identify flaky or unreliable automated tests and contribute to improving their reliability.
- Participate in code reviews and learn established development, automation, and secure coding standards.
- Document automated tests, test coverage, known limitations, and troubleshooting information.
- Explore and appropriately use AI-assisted coding and testing tools to support learning, test development, troubleshooting, and automation productivity.
- Participate in technical training, knowledge-sharing sessions, and mentorship opportunities.
- Continuously developing skills in software engineering, automation, API testing, databases, and broader Quality Engineering practices.
What qualifications do YOU need to have to be a GOOD candidate? Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent education, training, internship, or professional experience.
- Typically 0-2 years of experience in software development, software testing, test automation, Quality Engineering, or a related technical role.
- Coursework, internship, personal projects, or professional experience involving programming, software testing, APIs, databases, or automation is valuable.
- Interest in developing a career in software engineering, test automation, and Quality Engineering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Foundational understanding of software development and software testing concepts.
- Programming knowledge using C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or another object-oriented programming language.
- Understanding of basic programming concepts such as variables, conditions, loops, functions/methods, classes, and objects.
