Passive Safety Engineering Technician, Crash & Sled Labs

The Passive Safety Crash & Sled Test team is responsible for executing, analyzing, and reporting on crash and sled tests within required program timelines, primarily focusing on vehicle development, regulatory certification, and consumer protection crash testing. Team consists of Test Engineers and Engineering Technicians, specializing in Vehicle & Mechanical prep, Instrumentation & ATD (Anthropomorphic Test Devices, or crash test dummies), and Imaging.

• Conduct vehicle and component-level crash and sled tests per written/oral procedures in a team environment, ensuring quality and repeatability
• Prepare sled bucks and test samples; retrofit and rebuild test vehicles and samples for crash and sled testing
• Install and remove crash and sled fixtures, lab equipment, and ballast weights
• Perform pre- and post-test vehicle, seat, and dummy measurements/positioning using a CMM
• Install sensors, operate data acquisition systems, and set up still and high-speed cameras for crash and sled tests
• Execute sled tests including teardown and results support; support crash test execution and engineering review/signoffs
• Document test setups and incidents for both labs
• Decommission crash vehicles, including HV (400V/800V) battery removal and discharge; prepare vehicles for scrap
• Maintain and repair equipment in both labs; order parts; perform 5S, organize samples/components, and support lab improvements
• Maintain a safe working environment for all employees

• Associate's Degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology, OEM test technician training, or equivalent experience
• Experience diagnosing, repairing, and replacing components on Hybrid, BEV, and passenger vehicles (Tesla or certified BEV experience preferred)
• Proficiency with tools and shop equipment; able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted; basic fabrication, machine shop, and welding knowledge preferred
• Computer proficiency for diagnosis, test setup, and reporting (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Jira, Polyworks, Tesla-specific tools)
• Clear verbal and digital communication; ability to follow oral/written instructions; professional integrity and appearance
• Proactive attitude; thrives in a fast-paced environment; open to cross-training, including high-speed videography and photography
• Ability to maintain organized labs and enforce 5S standards
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
• 1+ year test laboratory experience preferred; flexibility for overtime and weekends as needed
• Valid driver's license; Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time
