About the Department	The Police Department of North Carolina State University is a CALEA and IACLEA accredited law enforcement agency. The agency provides a full array of police and security services with 54 full-time sworn officers and 17 non-sworn staff members. The department is operational 24-hours/365 days a year and has mutual aid and extraterritorial jurisdiction agreements with adjacent municipalities and law enforcement agencies. The 911 Center operates 24/7/365, is staffed by 11 Emergency Communications Officers ( ECO), and fields approximately 95,000 calls annually.

Essential Job Duties	In this role you will: Receive emergency and non-emergency calls. Dispatch police, fire and rescue to University locations. Operate and maintain Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD). Monitor and dispatch campus-wide fire and intrusion alarms. Operate Division of Criminal Information terminal. Issue and maintain records of departmental equipment. Maintain and update departmental records.
Other Responsibilities	Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education	High School diploma and sufficient experience to demonstrate ability to work under pressure. Additional Education and Experience will be necessary for progressive steps (Journey and Advanced). Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. May require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications	Experience in answering 911 emergency and public safety calls. Some college is preferred. Good computer and typing skills. Background in public safety is helpful.
Required License or Certification	Certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 120 days of employment. Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within 6 months of employment.
