Electronic Specialist II Retiree

Job Summary:

The Electronic Specialist II Retiree supports the availability and reliable distribution of electrical power across the University of Colorado campuses. This temporary retiree appointment will provide specialized knowledge and expertise to support the Power Management Control System (PMCS) and medium-voltage equipment maintenance, testing, and repairs. The work will focus on correcting PMCS breaker-transfer logic, updating software and I/O modules, and assisting with outages and breaker replacements so campus research buildings can transition reliably between utility and emergency backup power.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist the electrical team with planned outages and replacement of switchgear breakers that do not transfer power correctly between utility and emergency backup power.

* Repair PMCS logic so breakers engage correctly during outages and when transferring back to utility power.

* Update PMCS software and replace I/O modules.

* Perform or assist with medium-voltage equipment maintenance and repairs, including utility transformer oil sampling and testing.

* Conduct infrared scanning of electrical connections and complete testing of automatic transfer operation breakers and relays.

* Test breakers in switchgear serving campus buildings to support applicable code requirements.

* Inspect, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems, and respond to power, electrical, and fire alarm emergencies.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The position performs hands-on work with campus electrical systems, switchgear, substations, PMCS components, and planned outages.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

* Experience with computerized Power Management Control Systems (PMCS), including system logic, software updates, and I/O modules.

* Experience with medium-voltage electrical systems, switchgear, substations, transformers, breakers, and relays.

* Experience supporting electrical outages, power-transfer operations, preventive maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs.

Conditions of Employment:

* Must maintain a current and valid Colorado driver's license.

* Must successfully pass a University background check.

* Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship. We are unable to provide work visa sponsorship or employment authorization for this position now or in the future.

* Position works with high-voltage switching, maintenance, and repair.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Knowledge of electrical power distribution, PMCS operations, medium-voltage equipment, switchgear, substations, transformers, breakers, relays, and emergency backup power systems.

* Ability to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and related controls.

* Ability to respond to emergencies involving power, electrical, and fire alarm systems.

* Ability to collaborate with the electrical team during outages, testing, maintenance, and equipment replacement activities.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The hiring rate for this position has been established as $46.12 per hour.

The above hiring rate represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the applicable employment classification.
