Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Provides construction project management services for University capital improvement, renovation, and construction projects. Serves as the University's owner's representative throughout construction activities, ensuring projects are completed in accordance with contract requirements, industry standards, building codes, budget expectations, and schedule objectives. Coordinates contractors, consultants, and campus stakeholders to support successful project execution and minimize disruptions to University operations. Reviews technical documents, analyzes project issues, and develops practical solutions to support construction activities and project outcomes. Applies professional judgment and effective communication skills to manage complex projects while protecting the University's interests and supporting its mission.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT & OWNER REPRESENTATION - 30%

  • Serves as the University's owner's representative for assigned construction projects, ensuring the University's interests are effectively represented throughout project execution.
  • Provides construction management oversight for capital improvement, renovation, and facility projects from construction startup through project closeout.
  • Maintains compliance with contract requirements, project objectives, industry standards, and University expectations.
  • Coordinates project activities with contractors, consultants, campus stakeholders, and regulatory agencies as necessary.
  • Ensures projects are delivered with minimal disruption to campus operations and activities.

PROJECT SCHEDULING, RESOURCES & CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION - 25%

  • Manages project schedules and monitors construction progress to support timely completion of contracted work.
  • Evaluates contractor and consultant staffing levels and resource allocations to ensure adequate support for project requirements.
  • Monitors material procurement, fabrication, and equipment delivery schedules to mitigate project delays.
  • Interprets, administers, and enforces contract requirements during the construction phase.
  • Identifies project risks and coordinates appropriate corrective actions to maintain project objectives.

TECHNICAL REVIEW, COMPLIANCE & QUALITY ASSURANCE - 20%

  • Reviews construction plans, specifications, submittals, and equipment selections for compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Monitors construction activities to ensure adherence to building codes, engineering practices, safety requirements, and University standards.
  • Assists in evaluating technical issues and recommending solutions during project execution.
  • Conducts project inspections and reviews to support quality standards and successful project outcomes.
  • Ensures completed work aligns with approved project plans, specifications, and contractual obligations.

ANALYSIS, PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION SUPPORT - 15%

  • Performs analyses and assignments that support the Engineering, Construction, and Design function.
  • Investigates routine and complex project issues and develops recommendations to facilitate effective decision-making.
  • Evaluates alternative solutions using professional experience, sound judgment, and applicable precedent.
  • Provides technical guidance and recommendations to support project success and operational objectives.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement efforts that enhance project delivery and workflow efficiency.

COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION - 10%

  • Communicates complex technical and project information to a variety of audiences, ensuring understanding and alignment.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with contractors, consultants, University personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitates discussions regarding project scope, schedule, budget, and construction-related challenges.
  • Coordinates information sharing among project participants to support informed decision-making and project transparency.
  • Promotes effective teamwork and stakeholder engagement throughout the lifecycle of assigned projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in both office and active construction site environments with frequent interaction with contractors, consultants, University personnel, and project stakeholders. The position requires regular walking, standing, climbing stairs, navigating construction sites, and conducting field inspections across campus facilities. Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, construction noise, dust, and other site-related environmental conditions. The role requires the ability to review technical documents, plans, specifications, and project reports while managing multiple priorities simultaneously. The position involves sustained analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making in support of complex construction projects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not typically supervise full-time staff. Provides functional oversight and project coordination for consultants, contractors, vendors, and project teams involved in assigned construction projects. Monitors project performance and compliance with contract requirements, schedules, quality standards, and project objectives. May provide guidance and technical expertise to departmental personnel and project stakeholders as needed.

Shift

40 hours/week. Monday thru Friday. Additional hours and/ or weekends may be required during peak operating times.

Minimum Qualifications

"A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure may be required."

Experience with eBuilder (now Trinity Unity Construct) platform

Anticipated Hiring Range

$60,944 - $83,560
