Requisition ID req38016 Working Title HS Research Splst Position Grade 11 Position Summary The Center for Infectious Diseases and Immunity (CIDI) is seeking a full time, self-motivated HS Research Splst. The laboratory uses animal models of human infections to study disease pathogenesis and to develop effective vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics. Candidates must be willing to work with bacterial and viral pathogens and small animal models in a BSL-3/ABSL-3 facility. Candidate must also be able to perform animal injections, sample collections, dissection, and gross necropsy. Experience with microbiology, tissue culture, and immunoassays such as ELISAs, and/or flow cytometry strongly preferred. Candidates will be expected to help with laboratory management and regulatory compliance, write protocols, compile and analyze data, and preparing scientific reports. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are also required. See the Position Description for additional information. Conditions of Employment For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required. Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications Experience handling small animals and performing injections, sample collection, dissection, and necropsy Experience working with bacteria and viruses Experience performing immunoassays, tissue culture, and flow cytometry Ability to use basic computer software (Excel, Word, Prism, etc.), and knowledge of scientific research software to analyze data Additional Requirements - Must be able to successfully clear an FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Risk Assessment (SRA) and any other security clearances required to access select agents and toxins based on the restrictions identified in the USA PATRIOT Act for the position. Section III of the FD-961 Form lists the statutory prohibitors used by the CJIS for the SRA. - Must successfully clear the University of New Mexico background check process. - Must successfully clear the UNM Health Sciences Center pre-access suitability assessment. - Must meet all occupational health and safety requirements of the position, including medical clearances and required immunizations against pathogens used in the lab.
