Mechanical Engineer Senior/Specialist/Principal

The Waterfront Mechanical Engineering department provides engineering and design construction support for VIRGINIA Class submarines in a wide variety of weapons, propulsion and non-propulsion systems. Responsibilities of engineers include troubleshooting, problem resolution, technical evaluation of proposed modifications, design error correction, technical analysis, design integration, and development of technical work documents supporting VIRGINIA Class as well as maintenance and repair of commissioned ships. Engineers and designers interface within the department as well as with shipyard test, shipyard trades, material suppliers, other engineering departments and organizations, outside engineering vendors, Navy shipyards, Navy forces afloat, Supervisor of Shipbuilding, and NAVSEA. Waterfront Mechanical Engineers will support a design build team approach to submarine design and construction. The department is responsible for a variety of components including valves installed on VIRGINIA Class submarines. Waterfront Mechanical Engineering's role is to provide engineering and design oversight for drawings, components, and systems which includes engaging in a collaborative working relationship with various departments within Electric Boat as well as Electric Boats Design Union. Responsibilities include support of procurement and manufacture of components, troubleshooting issues during new construction as well as providing engineering support to the commissioned boat fleet.

Required:

Bachelor of Science degree or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Marine or Aeronautical, or Management Engineering
• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience

Preferred:

• Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering
• Knowledge of special emphasis programs (SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, FBW)
• Experience using SPARS, ELCADD, JCALS, and Teamcenter

• Above average written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment.
