Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the One Energy Plaza headquarterslocated in Jackson, MI . The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Director of Learning and Development is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of learning and development sub function within the organization. The incumbent focuses on fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development to enhance employee performance, engagement, and overall organizational effectiveness. Responsible for executing the department strategy to ensure it supports coworker development needs and aligns to the Company's strategic roadmaps in support of the CMS Energy mission. Responsible for building and maintaining relationships across the company to ensure Learning and Development is a strategic partner and providing value to the investment in our coworkers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess and leverage learning technologies, the learning management system, and other tools to enhance the delivery, tracking and effectiveness of learning initiatives; includes staying updated with industry trends and innovative learning methodologies
  • Cultivate relationships with industry experts, external training providers, and consultants to tap into specialized knowledge and resources. May involve collaborating on joint initiatives, attending conferences and exploring external learning opportunities
  • Develop and manage the learning and development sub functional budget, ensure the optimal utilization of resources, and demonstrate a return on investment for learning initiatives
  • Use key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, and reporting tools to provide insights and demonstrate the value of learning initiatives
  • Establish metrics and evaluation methods to assess the impact and effectiveness of learning and development programs; includes collecting and analyzing feedback, conducting post training assessments and utilizing data to drive continuous improvement. Tie learning and development metrics back to operational goals
  • Lead a lean mindset throughout the organization by using Lean methodologies. Demonstrate to the teams the importance of the lean steps by setting standards around use of the tools. Perform PDCA to ensure teams are properly using the tools; includes development of policies and procedures for sub function, staying updated with emerging trends in digital learning, mobile learning, gamification, and microlearning to leverage technology for enhanced learning experiences
  • Identify organizational needs, anticipating future learning requirements, and designing long-term learning plans that support business objectives
  • Execute and continually improve the strategy to ensure consistent alignment with company goals to include goals, mission and values. This should include identifying skill gaps, assessing training needs, and determining the most effective learning methodologies
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, department heads and subject matter experts to understand business needs, align learning initiatives with organizational objectives and ensure learning interventions are integrated seamlessly into various business functions
  • Lead teams by setting expectations and holding them accountable to meet departmental, organizational, and company goals
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to think strategically and align learning and development initiatives with the overall organizational strategy
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and engage a team, providing clear direction, setting performance expectations, and effectively managing resources to achieve departmental goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex ideas, training concepts, and learning objectives to diverse audiences
  • Understanding of the organization's industry, market dynamics, and business objectives to align learning strategies with organizational goals, anticipate future learning needs, and contribute to strategic decision-making
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization is essential
  • Ability to deliver engaging and impactful presentations, facilitate discussions, and provide constructive feedback is crucial
  • Understanding of adult learning theories, instructional design methodologies, and training delivery techniques
  • Proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to measure the impact and effectiveness of learning and development programs
  • Able to navigate organizational change and lead learning and development initiatives
  • Understanding of learning management systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, and other learning technologies

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, Engineering, Technology or related field and 10+ years of experience & working knowledge of training organizations; experience leading highly effective teams; utility experience; instructor experience or high level presentation skills; working in an operations setting to understand the complexities of the environment.
