Temple University's Environmental Health and Radiation Safety Department is searching for an Associate Health and Safety Specialist, Occupational Safety.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000
A variety of important factors are reviewed by HR when considering salary, including job duties, the applicant's education and experience, all relevant internal equity considerations, department budget, and funding source.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Occupational Safety Officer, the Associate Health and Safety Specialist, Occupational Safety provides technical support for the university's Occupational Safety Program through workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, safety training, and regulatory compliance activities. Collaborates with other EHRS staff to support institutional environmental, health, and safety programs including industrial hygiene, chemical safety, biological safety, radiation safety, and hazardous waste management, as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Details
* This position does require a pre-employment Department of Motor Vehicles background check.
* Offer of employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in a related field of science, such as chemistry, biology, physics, occupational safety, or industrial hygiene.
* At least three (3) years of directly related experience.
* A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Experience
* Experience working in a health and safety-related field.

* Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
* Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to follow procedures precisely and document findings accurately.
* Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and remain focused under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
* Must have a valid US driver's license of the ability to obtain one if hired.
* Exercise independent judgment within established procedures.
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions of the Position
* Conducting routine safety inspections and surveys to identify existing or potential hazards in workplace environments. Primary focus areas include ergonomic evaluations, machine guarding, confined spaces, lockout/tagout, fall protection, electrical safety, and PPE assessments.
* Investigating workplace incidents by conducting site visits, collecting data, and preparing documentation related to accidents, complaints, or safety concerns.
* Providing basic guidance to faculty, staff, and students on safe practices, regulations, procedures, and the proper use of hazardous materials.
* Helping to deliver training sessions, safety presentations, and distribution of educational materials.
* Maintaining safety equipment, supplies, and storage areas, including calibration of monitoring equipment and restocking personal protective equipment.
* Maintaining safety records and preparing routine reports.
* Providing support during emergency responses involving hazardous materials, such as helping with site management, logistics, and coordination.
* Participating in institutional safety training and professional development activities to build technical skills and remain current on safety standards.
* Supporting compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, and university requirements.
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
