Laboratory Coordinator I, ADAMO Lab

The University of Arizona's Attention Detection and Medical Observation (ADAMO) Lab invites you to apply for the role of Laboratory Coordinator I. The ADAMO Lab is a visual perception lab with a current focus on visual search and medical image perception (e.g., how a radiologist finds and recognizes signs of cancer in an X-ray). In this role, you will be responsible for administrative and operational tasks involved in lab management, including assisting with the coordination, design, and/or running of experiments; designing, modifying, and/or adapting programs and experiments in support of the lab's research; planning, developing, and formulating procedures; and operating, calibrating, and conducting performance checks on laboratory equipment, including electroencephalogram (EEG) systems, eye-tracking equipment, medical monitors, and general computer equipment. The lab is in the Departments of Psychology and Medical Imaging. The research will explore questions related to expertise (e.g., comparing students to radiologists when searching for signs of cancer) and how new search technology (e.g., 3D search and artificial intelligence) affect search performance.

Research activities may require local, domestic, and international travel; candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active passport.

Assists in the coordinating, design, and/or running of experiments:

• Provides assistance in the coordination of programs and projects.
• Receives direction and guidance from a supervisor to perform assigned work.
• May participate with senior professionals on projects and tasks.
• Data collection.
• Data management.
• Preparation and ongoing maintenance of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols.
• Takes meeting notes.

Designs, modifies, and/or adapts unique, one-of-a-kind systems in support of research:

• Revises and implements policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality control of the laboratory or field research operation and compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and standards.
• Creates and manages laboratory documentation.
• Manages workflow systems.
• Assists with workspace and equipment organization and cleanliness.
• Manages lab scheduling and calendar coordination.

Plans, develops, and formulates procedures:

• Coordinates operational activities in a research laboratory or research field operation, providing support services to researchers and technicians.
• Manages the ordering, inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, labware, and instruments essential to the operation of the lab or field research.
• Assist with applications and reporting for funding agencies.
• Assist with manuscript preparation and presentation.
• Assist with lab reimbursements.
• Oversees the lab's computational resources, website, and storage within the department's cluster.

Operates, calibrates, and conducts performance checks on highly complex and integrated laboratory
equipment:

• Trains on equipment operation and answer questions regarding experiments and equipment usage.
• Assists in the setup, disassembly, and running of laboratory experiments.
• Travels locally, within the U.S., and internationally for data collection activities. Will need an active passport.

Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

• Ability to communicate effectively with different groups and individuals.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
• Skill in public speaking and presenting information to large groups.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in experimental design and statistical analysis.
• Proficiency with computer applications and programming languages, including MATLAB, Python, HTML/JavaScript, and shell scripting.
• Good planning, organizational, and documentation skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.

• Previous experience in a research setting.
