APPRENTICE SERVICE TECHNICIAN

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Service Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced Service Technicians to learn the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial foodservice equipment, refrigeration systems, HVAC equipment, and related technologies. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and technical development opportunities, you'll gain valuable experience while building the skills needed to advance into a Service Technician role.

WHAT WILL YOUR DAY LOOK LIKE?

Leave from home or report directly to customer locations while working alongside experienced technicians to support customer operations and keep equipment running safely and efficiently.


  • Assist Service Technicians with diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and installing commercial foodservice, refrigeration, HVAC, and related equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic repair activities under supervision
  • Learn troubleshooting techniques related to electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and HVAC systems
  • Operate hand tools, testing equipment, and company-provided technology safely and effectively
  • Complete service documentation, work orders, labor entries, and parts usage records accurately
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition
  • Develop strong customer relationships through professional interactions and service excellence
  • Attend technical training programs, certification courses, safety meetings, and developmental workshops
  • Assist with inventory management, material organization, equipment installations, and start-up activities
  • Support customer engagement activities and help identify solutions that meet customer needs
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge, productivity, and customer service skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and stoop
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds using safe lifting practices and company-provided equipment
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work in commercial kitchens, mechanical rooms, rooftops, healthcare facilities, retail locations, and other customer environments
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work at elevated heights
  • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and company vehicles
  • Ability to work around electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical, and foodservice equipment
  • Ability to use computers, tablets, and mobile devices throughout the workday

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school coursework or certification in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical maintenance, or a related trade preferred.
  • Associate's degree in HVAC Technology, Refrigeration Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:


  • Entry-level position; no prior service technician experience required.
  • Previous mechanical, maintenance, construction, automotive, military, or technical experience preferred.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.

SYSTEMS:


  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Ability to learn service management software, timekeeping systems, and mobile field service applications.
  • Experience using mobile devices, tablets, and electronic work order systems preferred.
  • Experience with Workday preferred.

LICENSURES/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:


  • Valid Real ID driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain EPA Certification as required by business needs.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30-Hour training preferred.
  • CFESA Certification preferred, where applicable.
  • Ability to successfully complete all Smart Care Solutions and OpCo required technical, safety, and compliance training programs.
