Econolite is an innovator of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) solutions, products, and services. Our technology is helping save lives and making the Smart City a reality. If you want to be at the forefront of this intelligent technology revolution, we want to talk to you about being part of our team. Econolite is committed to employing the best talent that will make significant contributions to building a safer, connected world.

Econolite's ITS solutions ease traffic congestion, provide safer mobility, and improve quality of life. As the one-stop-shop leader for traffic management systems, sensor products, and services, Econolite is committed to the advancement of connected and autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and cybersecurity.

We are looking for a UI/UX Software Engineer to join our team and own the user experience of the Centracs Mobility product line. This is a hybrid role at the intersection of design and engineering: you will research user needs, design workflows and interfaces, and build them as production-quality front-end code. Our users are traffic engineers and operators who rely on data-dense, real-time applications to keep cities moving safely, and we need interfaces that make complex information clear and fast to act on.

This role is built for someone who works at an AI-native pace. We expect tools like Claude Design, Claude Code, Figma (including Figma Make and Dev Mode), and Vercel v0 to be a core part of how you work every day, so that you can move from idea to clickable prototype to shipped feature in days rather than weeks. You should be comfortable using AI to explore many design directions quickly, while bringing the design judgment and engineering discipline to decide what is actually right for our users.

DUTIES

  • Own the end-to-end UI/UX for Centracs Mobility features, from discovery and user flows through wireframes, high-fidelity designs, and production implementation.
  • Use AI design and prototyping tools (Claude Design, Figma Make, Vercel v0, or similar) to rapidly generate, compare, and iterate on design concepts and interactive prototypes.
  • Put working prototypes in front of users and stakeholders early and often, and use their feedback to drive fast iteration cycles.
  • Translate validated designs into production-ready front-end code in Angular and TypeScript, using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to accelerate implementation, testing, and refactoring.
  • Build and improve AI-assisted workflows that connect design and code, such as design-to-code handoff through Figma Dev Mode and MCP integrations, shared prompt and context libraries, and reusable agent workflows for the team.
  • Create and maintain a shared design system and component library, including design tokens, reusable components, and usage guidelines in both Figma and code.
  • Design data-dense operational interfaces, including dashboards, maps, real-time status views, and configuration workflows, that are clear, efficient, and usable under pressure.
  • Ensure interfaces meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and work well across screen sizes and devices.
  • Conduct lightweight user research, usability testing, and analysis of usage data to inform design decisions.
  • Apply sound judgment to AI-generated designs and code. You are responsible for the usability, accessibility, security, and maintainability of everything you ship, regardless of how it was produced.
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, engineers, QA, and customer-facing teams in an agile environment, and champion user-centered design and rapid experimentation across the engineering organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of experience in UI/UX design and front-end engineering. A portfolio showing both design work and shipped production code is required.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience using AI tools in a professional design and development workflow, such as Claude Design, Claude Code, Figma Make, Vercel v0, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot. Able to speak concretely to how these tools have changed the speed and quality of your work, not just that you have tried them.
  • Strong-level proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, auto layout, prototyping, and Dev Mode.
  • Strong front-end development skills in HTML, CSS/SCSS, and TypeScript, with experience in Angular. Experience with React, Next.js, and Vercel deployments is a plus.
  • Experience building or maintaining design systems and component libraries.
  • Solid understanding of UX principles, information architecture, interaction design, and visual design.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and responsive design.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and working in an agile development team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present and defend design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience designing complex, data-heavy enterprise or operational applications (dashboards, mapping/GIS, real-time monitoring) is desirable.
  • Traffic or transportation domain experience is desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Interaction Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
