Econolite's ITS solutions ease traffic congestion, provide safer mobility, and improve quality of life. As the one-stop-shop leader for traffic management systems, sensor products, and services, Econolite is committed to the advancement of connected and autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and cybersecurity.

We are looking for a Platform Engineer to join our team, specializing in Kubernetes-based infrastructure. In this role, you will primarily deploy, operate, and support the Centracs Mobility product line in customer on-premises environments running Kubernetes, and secondarily assist with the cloud DevOps that supports our hosted environments. You will work closely with development, support, and customer IT teams to deliver secure, reliable, and repeatable deployments.

Some travel to customer sites is required for installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

DUTIES

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Kubernetes clusters in customer on-premises environments, on customer-provided hardware and virtualization platforms.
  • Package and deploy Centracs Mobility services using Helm and version-controlled, repeatable configuration.
  • Build and maintain the tooling, runbooks, and documentation that make on-premises installations and upgrades consistent and repeatable, including deployments into restricted or air-gapped networks (private container registries, offline install packages).
  • Provide platform services on premises without relying on cloud-managed services: ingress and load balancing, certificate management, persistent storage, secrets management, identity (Keycloak), and messaging (Kafka).
  • Provide platform capabilities for SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases, including provisioning, backup/restore, high availability, and upgrades.
  • Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting for on-premises deployments; diagnose and resolve issues in customer environments, remotely or on site.
  • Work with customer IT and network teams on site prerequisites, including networking, DNS, firewall rules, remote access, and hardware sizing.
  • Apply security hardening and patching to clusters, nodes, and containers; remediate CVEs; and support security practices and certifications such as SOC 2.
  • Assist with cloud DevOps: build and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for containerized .NET (C#) and Angular applications, and support cloud-hosted Kubernetes environments.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate scripting, troubleshooting, automation, and documentation, and review their output before applying it to production or customer environments.
  • Work closely with the technical and support teams to deliver and manage services with maximum uptime.
  • Contribute to other projects as needed, such as software development.

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate will possess keen analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, and a mindset of continual learning. Candidates must be self-motivated individuals who proactively seek to grow their knowledge base and progress in their careers.

  • 2-6 years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or systems engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience running Kubernetes outside of a managed cloud service (e.g., RKE2, k3s, kubeadm, or OpenShift), including installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong background with Docker containers and Helm.
  • Strong understanding of networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, TLS/certificates, firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation.
  • Linux and Windows Server administration, with scripting in Bash and PowerShell.
  • Azure DevOps, including pipeline development, or comparable CI/CD experience; Azure or AWS cloud experience.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server and PostgreSQL administration.
  • Experience managing security policies and practices, such as SOC 2.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-grade production software, preferably delivered into customer-managed environments.
  • Programming experience with a high-level programming language, such as C#.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customer IT staff and to travel to customer sites as needed.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or an equivalent engineering field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATONS

  • Experience with air-gapped or disconnected deployments.
  • Experience operating Kafka (e.g., Strimzi), Keycloak, and cert-manager on Kubernetes.
  • Infrastructure as code and configuration management (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
  • Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Hyper-V).
  • Traffic or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) domain experience, or experience serving public-sector customers.
