The Pattiz Physician-Scientist Initiative in Dementia Research at Rutgers Health is led by the Krieger Klein Alzheimer's Research Center within the Rutgers Brain Health Institute (
BHI) and is aimed at recruiting and nurturing outstanding physician-scientists dedicated to advancing scientific discovery and clinical care in dementia and aging.
Physician-scientists selected for the Pattiz Physician-Scientist Initiative in Dementia Research at Rutgers Health will be U.S.-licensed clinicians (neurologists, psychiatrists, geriatricians, internists, family medicine, or related fields) who have demonstrated research productivity and commitment to advancing science in
ADRD.
Selected candidates will be appointed at the Tenured or Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor level, and will receive a competitive start-up package.
Participants will conduct independent research within one of three major scientific domains, according to their interests and needs:

Basic Science: Experimental models of neurodegeneration, cognition, and aging
*
Translational Science: Human neuronal models, including but not limited to neural (neurons, astrocytes, oligodendrocytes) and microglial cells derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells; two- or three-dimensional brain organoids, and potential preclinical therapeutic and biomarker development.
*
Clinical Research: Clinical trials and outcomes, behavioral, digital, and blood-based biomarkers for early detection of disease, bioinformatics and data-science oriented personalized medicine and population studies.
Candidates who are early career investigators (Assistant Professors) will be paired with a senior hands-on Rutgers mentor (with active
NIH funding and established mentoring credentials) and a mentoring team that includes two additional co-mentors. Selected candidates will engage in cross-disciplinary projects and develop a body of data that will position them for high-impact publications and competitive grants, providing a strong foundation for an independent physician-scientist career.
Each candidate will have up to significant protected research time, along with clinical effort within the relevant clinical department (e.g. departments of Neurology or Psychiatry at
RWJMS or
NJMS), with modest flexibility in this ratio based on the candidate's career goals and the clinical department or division involved. Candidates from Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with an
ADRD focus may also be considered.
Appointees must dedicate both clinical and research effort to
