QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field;
  • Minimum of three years of full-time experience in IT, Software Development, Cybersecurity, or related field;
  • Minimum 18 graduate semester hours in computer science;
  • Ability to deliver high quality instruction in a range of Business courses;
  • Willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process;
  • Strong student-orientation, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population;
  • In-depth experience with Windows and Linux operating systems;
  • Experience with C++, C#, Java, Python programming languages preferable;
  • Experience in one or more of the following computer related domains:
    • Computer networking/IT management
    • Cybersecurity (policy, penetration testing, forensics, etc.)
    • Web development (HTML/CSS/JS/PHP/ASP.NET)
    • Data science (analytics, machine learning)
  • Preference shall be given to the following:
    • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a college or other post-secondary institution setting;
  • Prior experience teaching at the baccalaureate level;
  • Teaching experience with diverse adult populations and special populations;
  • Experience in distance learning instruction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering high quality instruction in Computer Information Technology (CIT) courses;
  • Delivering courses in a wide range of settings in the four-county area;
  • Designing and developing curriculum in collaboration with department chair for CIT courses;
  • Organizing and providing educational experience leading to student credentialing and gainful employment in CIT careers;
  • Maintaining effective records of student success;
  • Coaching students in a co-curricular occupational student organization;
  • Contributing to the recruitment and retention of program students;
  • Contribute with creating, articulating, implementing and measuring program and course learning outcomes;
  • Serving the community;
  • Serving effectively on college committees;
  • Participate and contribute to developing and growing deparment service-learning programs;
  • May be assigned to teach at any IRSC campus or the Main Campus, which change according to the needs of the program/department;
  • Weekends and evenings may be required;

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides ongoing instruction in the Computer Information Technology program for students including special population students to include skills development, employability skills, and mentoring and retention;
  • Duties and responsibilities associated with teaching a minimum of 36 semester hours annually to include:

a. preparing a syllabus for each course,

b. instructing assigned classes,

c. grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments,

d. assigning final grades.

  • Delivering effective instruction in a wide range of CIT courses, using contemporary teaching methods;
  • Delivering a limited set of specialized courses;
  • Developing new courses to meet the changing needs of an increasingly more technological workplace;
  • Mentoring CIT adjunct faculty;
  • Actively supports student success;
  • Supporting student's professional development through appropriate student organizations;
  • Maintaining and developing skills necessary to integrate and use technology effectively in the classroom and through various modes of delivery;
  • Representing the department and college in public forums;
  • Serving as the member of an effective team in achieving the overall department and college goals;
  • Aiding students in overcoming obstacles to successful completion of instructional programs;
  • Maintaining an active program of professional development related to individual, professional, and institutional needs;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned;
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
