Scope of Position Harding Hospital and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center are committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive. Our hospital is a multi-disciplinary Academic Center for Excellence providing behavior health inpatient, partial, outpatient, emergency, crisis stabilization, and consultation services to adults and adolescents. Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), as a multi-disciplinary team of behavioral health professionals, facilitates inquiries about and access to Psychiatric Services on a 24-hour basis. As a Harding service embedded in the Medical Center Emergency Departments, PES provides comprehensive face-to-face, or via telemedicine system, mental health amp; substance use evaluations, crisis assessments, and brief crisis interventions (as indicated) to adult and adolescent patients presenting with psychiatric emergencies to the Medical Center Emergency Departments. When appropriate amp; possible, PES assists patients amp; families with linkage to inpatient, partial, and outpatient services for adults and adolescents through Harding Hospital and/or other services in the community. PES also provides the intake and admitting function, insurance verification, precertification, and telephone consultation to referral sources regarding access to Harding services. PES works collaboratively with programs within Harding, the Emergency Department, other departments of the Medical Center, amp; other community behavioral health facilities including, but not limited to, Netcare, Nationwide Childrens Hospital, and other public and private psychiatric facilities. Position Summary As a member of the Psychiatric Emergency Services Team at OSU Harding, the Capacity Management Coordinator 2 would have extensive interface with staff in the OSU Department of Psychiatry amp; Behavioral Health, the OSU Harding Hospital, Emergency Departments, University Hospital, East Hospital, Talbot Hall, OSU ambulatory providers, and external mental health facilities. In conjunction with PES, Consult, and/or Harding clinical teams the Capacity Management Coordinator 2 arranges and coordinates all urgent and emergent inpatient psychiatric admissions to Harding and transfers to external inpatient psychiatric facilities. The Capacity Management Coordinator 2 is responsible for communicating and coordinating with the larger Harding treatment team members, including other PES staff members, OSU Consult team staff members, psychiatric Inpatient, Partial, IOP, and Outpatient, collaborative information to optimize patients physical and mental health care and timely inpatient psychiatric bed-placement. This communication and coordination may expand to other parts of the Medical Center when needed. The Capacity Management Coordinator 2 also receives transfer requests from external referring facilities and coordinates patient transfer to Harding Hospital. The Capacity Management Coordinator 2 facilitates communication between referring and receiving hospitals/physicians/clinicians, patients, and families in a professional and effective manner. The Capacity Management Coordinator 2 enters information into the PES tracking database, as it occurs, for creation of real time data regarding psychiatric inpatient bed movement and PES workflow with a high degree of accuracy. Documents all required information pertaining to the patient transfer process accurately and thoroughly. Provides training to PES staff, residents, and trainees regarding the psychiatric inpatient bed-placement process. Assists with the marketing, billing, scheduling, registration and other business and financial services of PES. Assists OSU Harding Director of Social Work and Medical Director with office functions and coverage as needed or assigned. Maintains knowledge base of processes, payers, treatment providers, and systems by attending meetings and reviewing training materials and identifies, addresses, and works to resolve system problems impacting transfers. Escalates issues as appropriate to management. PES goals are to provide patient care and supportive services that are directed at achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient`s involvement in his/her own care plan, improving service levels, reducing the frequency of unnecessary psychiatric hospitalization or readmissions, and decreasing costs Minimum Qualifications For Hire: Bachelors degree required. Bachelors degree in health related field (Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred. Computer proficiency and excellent communication amp; interpersonal skills required. Familiarity with and ability to understand and utilize mental health clinical and non-clinical terminology in interactions with clinical team members, payers, patients, and families required. Excellent problem-solving and multi-tasking skills required. Ability to multi-task required. Must be thorough, organized, and attentive to detail required. Prior experience in crisis management (such as a suicide hotline) preferred. Licensed Social Work (LSW) preferred. Prior experience working in mental health environment such as patient care and/or mental health billing preferred. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Ongoing: Maintain training in the use of computers to generate a variety of materials ranging from basic to complex; Maintain training in office practices and procedures; Participate in ongoing customer service learning opportunities. Annually complete required CBLs. Actively participate in annual training on mental health billing procedures, changing insurance providers and plans, and submission criteria and methods. If applicable, maintain licensure(s), credentials. Practice within the parameters of the Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board (if applicable).
