OVERVIEW:

We are looking for CORPORATE COUNSEL - Commercial Affairs based in Stamford, Connecticut office to lead various legal and compliance initiatives.

Reporting to Senior Counsel - Commercial Affairs, this crucial role will partner with various stakeholders across the Beiersdorf business to protect and grow the brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a legal business partner including but not limited to marketing, digital, and other commercial functions
  • Drafts and negotiates a high volume of various commercial contracts (e.g. commercial, sales, e-commerce, distribution/retail agreements, marketing, etc.)
  • Reviews marketing materials, artwork claims, and company communications (digital, social media, television, and print) for compliance with laws and regulations (e.g. FTC, FDA, NAD, MOCRA etc.)
  • Work closely with commercial teams to ensure understanding of the business in order to provide legal advice or assist with escalating/proactively addressing topics
  • Partner cross-functionally, with global legal colleagues to support various project initiatives, including but limited to intellectual property matters
  • Create clear, thorough risk assessments and provide strong research support
  • Assists with any potential/pending litigation or disputes as needed
  • Assists with audits and other risk management initiatives
  • Stays abreast of any applicable changes in regulations, laws, as well as legal challenges occurring in similarly situations industries
  • Maintain company databases as needed
  • Handling legal administrative task, back-office request, and coordinating for the legal dept. as needed
  • Assists the legal department in other areas as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from an accredited law school/university required
  • A member, in good standing of a U.S. State Bar with the ability to practice law in Connecticut or eligible for the Connecticut In-House Counsel Bar
  • 4-6 years of experience as Legal Counsel - consumer products or in-house counsel experience strongly preferred
  • Specialized knowledge of the retailer trade, e-commerce, digital, sustainability, marketing law and other technical legal matters
  • Demonstrated ability to approach issues with both C-suite executives
  • Considers business priorities when providing legal recommendations and solutions, as well as the ability to spot legal issues across disciplines and facilitate conversations
  • Experience with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex contracts
  • Experience with advertising laws/regulations and intellectual property
  • Knowledge and experience of North American legal system, rules and regulations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Strong, clear, concise communication skills that can adapt based on the audience
  • Comfortable communicating to internal clients at all levels of the organization
  • Positive team member and active contributor in a team environment
  • Collaborative, pro-active, solution-oriented mindset and creative problem solving skills
  • Strong PowerPoint and presentation skills
  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Able to perform administrative tasks as needed
  • Excellent time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail, responsive and well organized
  • The ability to travel domestically and internationally (<25%)
  • Relocation assistance is not available
