Position Summary:

Lifeguard will uphold Program Safety Standards to ensure the safety of all individuals participating in the Red Shield's Aquatics Program. The Supervisor will oversee and implement aquatic program activities to meet the needs and interest of participants.

Essential Functions:



  • Maintains constant surveillance of members/guests in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of members and guests in the event of emergency. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.(4-10)
  • Hose down pool deck and boys locker room daily.
  • Responsible for vacuuming and backwashing the pool on a weekly basis to ensure the cleanliness and proper filtration of pool water.
  • Responsible for the well keeping and proper storage of all pool equipment.
  • Pool office area should be maintained, clean, and in good order at all times.
  • Check and maintain proper chlorine and PH count of pool water several times a day.
  • Conduct daily safety checks of all the pool areas.
  • Ensure all pool doors and dressing room, and pool areas are secured at the conclusion of all pool activities.
  • Assist/conduct all program activities such as; general swim, swim lessons, swim team, family swim, water aerobics and water polo.
  • Report all accidents, statistics and facility safety concerns to head lifeguard and/or facility director.
  • Maintain safety and proper conduct of all members by constantly being aware of potential dangers and correcting behavior even if not assigned to that specific area.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • To maintain, personnel, members and other information work related confidential.
  • Must understand the philosophy, Program Standards, Protecting the Mission Policies of The Salvation Army. Instruct, supervise and support volunteers that attend the community service program.


Working Conditions:

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Lifeguard Certificate, First aid and CPR for the Professional rescuer.
  • Water Safety, WSI card & Aqua Aerobics Instructor is a plus.
  • AED Training Certificate
  • High School Diploma


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:



  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Driving Test and clean MVR check (if applicable).
  • If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
