The Clinical Educator - Point of Care serves as the point of care or designated unit educator for new employee orientation and facilitates annual team member development through formal and informal in-services and training programs. The role supports the development of bedside clinical team members and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidence-based nursing practice. This position collaborates with the clinical education team to provide computer orientation and retraining as deemed necessary. This position facilitates quality reports to assure proper documentation and follow-through are being met. The position follows and teaches the established nursing process, including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation. This position ensures adherence to hospital or department policies, and nursing procedures, standards, and practices. The role functions to assure nursing practices are aligned systemically with evidence-based practice and regulatory compliance. The position participates in planning and implementing initiatives aimed at improving clinical quality outcomes and achieving departmental annual goals. In alignment with the BHC system goals, this role plays a key role in driving improvements in quality and service with a focus on improvement of departmental retention rates, HCAHPS scores, and Hospital-Acquired Condition rates. In collaboration with other certified clinicians serves as the clinical subject matter expert and internal consultant to leadership assuring that professional standards of practice in the clinical area are integrated into decision-making, operations, and practice. The role serves as an educator, leader, change agent, and researcher.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, designs, presents, and coordinates educational programs, in-services, and orientation for the departmental team members.
  • Responsible for continuing education of unit team member's orientation to the unit, educational programs, as well as team member's development including training activities, mentoring, and being a clinical resource.
  • Collaborates with the designated unit manager and other clinical personnel weekly to identify learning needs and areas of improvement related to patient care outcomes on the unit.
  • Maintains current knowledge of evidence-based standards.
  • Responsible for providing team member development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leader and researcher.
  • Provides a comprehensive orientation program for all new hired team members.
  • Conducts in-services and programs as required. Documents education and training activities.
  • Collaborates with administrative and clinical personnel in identifying the learning needs of individuals and groups in the patient care unit.
  • Promotes a climate for the employee that encourages learning and self motivation through the application of principles of adult learning.
  • Participates in departmental quality efforts and develops educational programs to reflect needs identified through quality monitoring.
  • Maintains current knowledge of evidence-based standards.
  • Responsible for providing continuing education programming for the patient care staff.
  • Provides a comprehensive orientation program for all new hired staff.
  • Conducts in-services and programs as required.
  • Documents education and training activities.
  • Actively pursues new developments in education and training methodology and participates in activities that contribute to professional growth and development.
  • Collaborates with administrative and clinical personnel in identifying the learning needs of individuals and groups in the patient care unit.
  • Promotes a climate for the employee that encourages learning and self motivation through the application of principles of adult learning.
  • Participates in departmental quality efforts and develops educational programs to reflect needs identified through quality monitoring.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Actively pursues new developments in education and training methodology and participates in activities that contribute to professional growth and development.


Qualifications

Strongly preferred: Neurosurgery/Orthosurgery experience

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Required
  • Master's Degree Within three (3) years of employment Required

Minimum Work Experience
  • 1-3 years Acute care nursing experience Required
  • 2 years Acute care, ED or critical care nursing experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) Upon Hire Required
  • Professional Nursing Certification within 3 Years Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and a commitment to education as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services.
  • Proficient in EMR, CPOE and Medication Administration Programs.
  • Problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
