Position description

The Institute of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a lecturer in cinematic arts. The Cinematic Arts Program is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and has occasional openings for temporary non-tenure track lecturers.

Duties include instruction and all related duties for courses on topics related to cinematic arts. This may include, but is not limited to: cinematography, directing, editing, animation, 3D and CGI, production studio technique, and other aspects of film studies and film production. Lecturers will work with the program director and affiliated faculty to discuss course content and develop syllabi as needed.

Appointments may be one or more quarters based on departmental need, and for one, two, or three courses per quarter.

Subsequent applications will be reviewed periodically as teaching needs arise.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* MA, MFA or PhD or commensurate work experience in fields related to cinematic arts, film, and film studies.

* At least one academic year of experience teaching at the college level as a lead instructor in the field of expertise, or at least two academic years of experience teaching in other settings in the field of expertise. Experience may be intermittent.

* At least one year of work experience, production, or scholarship in one of the following fields: cinematography, directing, editing, animation, 3D and CGI, or production studio technique.

* Able to demonstrate excellence in teaching through syllabi and/or teaching evaluations, and a commitment to student-centered and multicultural education.

Preferred qualifications

* Knowledge of and experience in current trends in cinematic arts.

* Experience developing syllabi.

* Familiarity with effective use of technologies in instruction.

* Knowledge of effective techniques for classroom management.

* Experience supervising teaching assistants.
