Position Summary

Responsible for planning monthly menus, managing the preparation and pace of food for daily consumption and special events for up 150 clients, thus maintaining food quality, proper inventory and ensuring health and safety regulations are adhered to.

Essential Functions



  • Prepare weekly & monthly inventory and statistics working closely with the Operations Manager and Director.
  • Maintain the weekly budget cost and control while ordering food & supplies for meal preparation.
  • Supervise 3 cooks, volunteers, community service workers and beneficiaries.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of dining hall, stainless steel, and other areas under Kitchen supervision.
  • Understand, manage, and train employees on the proper use of all kitchen equipment to include cleanliness of ovens, oven hoods, filters, etc. All kitchen equipment and proper sanitation procedures.
  • Monitor and reporting of emergencies, accidents, and equipment breakdown immediately to the Operations Manager, or his/her designee.
  • Monitor the reporting of all absences (illness, etc.) in order to have accurate coverage at all times.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and organization of the pantry and other warehouse facilities used for food storage and other kitchen items.
  • Ensure all kitchen staff have up to date ServSafe certification and trained on OSHA guidelines.
  • Train, support, manage and assign schedules up to 4 cooks on 2 separate shifts. Encourage and Supervise client participants during KP duties.
  • Maintain records and logs related to kitchen services.
  • Enforce and maintain all Food Service, Health and Safety Code and OSHA policies.
  • Perform pre-safety checks and routine inspections of food equipment and report major repairs or services needed to Operations Manager.
  • Report all emergencies, accidents or equipment breakdown immediately to Operations Manager and/or Director.
  • Establish and maintain effective and positive work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
  • Perform all duties with courtesy and respect, maintaining a healthy relationship with the staff and clients.
  • Follow weekly schedule and perform all other duties as assigned by Operations Manager or Director.


Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Culinary Arts degree and/or one year of management and supervisory experience.
  • Must be a certified food handler under the California Safety Code 97-0071.
  • Must have work experience in kitchen/food service, (knife skills, cooking skills and working with large equipment).
  • Microsoft Office applications, email, work and excel a must.
  • Must be C-19 Vaccinated, TB cleared prior to working and possess a CPR and First Aid Certificates.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Ability to place orders and calculate inventories for production.
  • Service minded and able to function in a multi-facility environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for daily interaction internal/external customers and supporting staff. at the various departments.
  • Ability to organize time, priorities and schedules and adhere to the monthly calendar deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic, high output in service delivery, able to complete tasks well and efficiently.

Experience
