Currently recruiting a Nurse Practitioner (NP) - Internal Medicine in Portsmouth, Virginia to work at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The Nurse Practitioner-Internal Medicine may work in any of the health clinics or sub clinics. The Nurse Practitioner-Internal Medicine is a full-time position, with services normally required Mon - Fri, excluding federal holidays, between the hours of 7AM - 6PM.

DUTIES OF THE NURSE PRACTITIONER-INTERNAL MEDICINE:
  • The Nurse Practitioner shall perform a full range of duties consistent with their labor category, education, training, experience, clinical privileges (e.G., technically direct and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems;provide immunizations;diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
  • Provide comprehensive care for acute and chronic problems under general oversight of the head of Internal Medicine.
  • Collaborate with patient and family to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
  • Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Formulate a health care plan for patients and modify the plan as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE NURSE PRACTITIONER-INTERNAL MEDICINE:
  • Degree: Master's degree (or higher) in nursing.
  • Minimum two years of full-time experience within the last three years as a Nurse Practitioner working in adult, family, or medical/surgical outpatient setting.
  • Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Possess and maintain certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Provide two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to their clinical skills. One letter must be from a physician or other supervisor who personally observed and evaluated the clinician.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse.
  • U.S. Citizen (for access to Government computer systems).
  • BLS is required.
