Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
The School of Nursing invites applications for Part-Time Instructors for the fall 2024 semester. Part-Time Instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester basis to teach nursing courses. Clinical and/or didactic instructors will teach adult health, pediatrics, maternity, and mental health in our traditional, accelerated, and RN-
BSN entry options and/or applicable Psych-Mental Health NP or Post-Master's TL
DNP
The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory and advanced level courses by the School of Nursing. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planning and providing clinical instruction and experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives and curriculum of the nursing program and profession if applicable
- Facilitating student achievement of course objectives/outcomes through varied teaching methods. Evaluating student achievement of course objectives/outcomes.
- Serving as a nursing resource person for healthcare and local agencies.
- Utilizing feedback from student/faculty evaluations for instructional improvement.
- Serving as a role model for students in the professional, social and civic areas.
- Utilization of evidence-based research in teaching and the practice of nursing.

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences (
HCHHS) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The
HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs; Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. At the graduate level,
HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Master in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work (
MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology, and Ph.D in Social Work. Three additional doctoral programs are being developed; Doctor of Nurse Practice (
DNP), PhD in Applied Psychology, and PhD in Sociology. The
HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (
CIHDER), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The
HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhance the mentoring of trainees, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.
The School of Nursing is dedicated to equipping individuals for the nursing profession, ensuring they possess the essential skills and knowledge for quality, safe, patient-centered care. Our comprehensive program offerings include three tracks; (i) traditional bachelor of nursing (
BSN), (ii) Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (
ABSN), and (iii) RN to
BSN pathways, catering to a diverse range of educational needs. We are committed to advancing health equity and engaging with communities as part of our mission to enhance the well-being of individuals and communities. This mission is fueled by leadership, research, education, and service. Our faculty, who are expert clinicians and educators, utilize cutting-edge technology on the main campus and our Union Square campus to provide nursing education grounded in current theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Minimum Requirements |
Graduate degree in Nursing and a minimum of two years full-time employment or equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse verified with the Board of Nursing. For
DNP track, must hold a terminal degree in nursing. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
Candidates Masters or Doctorate in nursing degree with 1-3 years teaching experience at the University or Community College level and a background in nursing are preferred. |
Required License or Certification |
Current unrestricted RN license to practice in the state of North Carolina. |
