The Sanmina Fremont facility is a full-service enclosure systems solution manufacturing plant. Located in California's Silicon Valley, this facility produces low-to-mid volume New Product Introduction (NPI) runs to full-scale volume. The Fremont facility offers everything from small piece parts to fully integrated and tested systems. In addition, this location offers in-house painting capabilities and flexible logistics solutions in distribution, inventory management and hubbing, as well as repair services.

Sr. Manufacturing Engineer

Senior level manufacturing engineer supporting New Product Introduction and Sustainment. The Sr. Mfg Engineer will be the primary technical interface with customers and internal Sanmina teams on assigned projects. This role will provide technical leadership support to generate and execute project plans to evaluate and improve both new and existing programs for operational improvements and cost reductions. A significant emphasis in this role is related to fabricated welded assemblies.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities

New Product Development



  • Lead manufacturing engineering support for new product development activities, interface with customers to translate design requirements to manufacturable processes.
  • Provide manufacturing work instructions and requirements for tooling and fixtures. Calculate and verify with accuracy production hour estimates during the launch of a project.
  • Provide material handling/packaging feedback to internal and external customers.
  • Provide should cost analysis for fabricated welded assemblies.
  • Provide DFX (X = manufacturing, transportation, maintenance etc) feedback to customer
  • Lead the transfer of design changes from concept level to high volume production.
  • Firsthand knowledge of creating process flowcharts, PFMEA & Process Control plans.
  • Ability to conceptualize, design and develop assembly and test fixtures for electro-mechanical applications.
  • Conduct the product qualification and oversee verification of new designs, changed processes & fixtures
  • Interface with key/critical suppliers and review their processes and drive improvement in functionality and cost.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.


Sustaining Product Support



  • Performs root cause analysis & recommends corrective actions to address manufacturing issues related to electro-mechanical assemblies that included welded components.
  • Continuously work to improve manufacturing methods and product quality.
  • Practice LEAN techniques and be able to facilitate kaizens.
  • Accountable for maintenance of process documentation & KPI(s) for the assigned product line(s).
  • Work closely with operations management to ensure timely resolution of daily issues.
  • Interface with supplier quality engineering to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Monitor quality reports and field performance of assigned product lines, identify trends, investigate problems, and implement corrective actions.
  • Actively supports and adheres to the Quality Policy and Quality System procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with hourly team members, mid and upper management.
  • Other duties related to above may be required.


Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related (mechanical/materials/welding)
  • 5+ years of related experience in manufacturing fabricated assemblies.
  • Ability to design, develop, implement and improve integrated systems that include people, materials, information, equipment and cost.
  • Ability to perform advance level of engineering work in fabrication/machining/assembly developing weld fixtures, programming NC or Robots, developing weld procedures, and implementing weld improvements techniques)
  • Experience with Trumpf Automation for fabricated metals.
  • Willing and capable to acquire CWI certifications or currently certified.
  • Capable of performing root cause analysis to determine cause and solutions to various technical manufacturing issues.
  • Product costing knowledge and ability to identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Project, Database software/Access, Excel, and Word software.
  • This position requires an intermediate to advanced skill level with SolidWorks or equivalent.

Salary Range (annual): $125,000 - $140,000
