Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $37.91 to $40.09 and may commensurate with experience.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a part-time Staff Nurse for our Senior Services department at our Karin and Kuehner house location.

Position Description: The Staff Nurse will manage health care for clients of SOME's Senior Services Programs.

Schedule: Part-Time; Monday-Friday; (20 hours per week - Flexible hours)

Qualifications:

Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing; Licensed Practical Nurse; 2-3 yrs experience in geriatric care; experience with low-income patients;

Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse; 3+ yrs experience in geriatric care; experience with low-income patients; experience providing services to patients in recovery; previous experience providing community healthcare and home visits.

Required License/Certification: Nursing License by the District of Columbia Department of Health; CPR/First Aid, Driver's license and access to reliable personal vehicle

  • Knowledge of clinical care and nursing
  • Basic nursing skills and assessment skills related to patient care
  • Basic understanding of care issues related to aging
  • Knowledge of electronic health records usage and management
  • Time management
  • Customer service skills to work with clients
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Action-oriented
  • Ability to work independently
  • Facilitation skills


Clinical Care:



  • Prepare and monitor medications for Kuehner Place and Karin house residents
  • provide weekly visits and individual assessments with Kuehner Place residents
  • Counsel participants in all Senior Services Programs on healthcare issues
  • Support the health needs of participants in all Senior Services Programs as needed
  • Conduct community home visits to homebound seniors as needed
  • Coordinate care with external providers as needed
  • Present educational sessions in the Senior Center on a monthly basis
  • Provide healthcare education to all Senior Services Programs
  • Provide health, wellness, and medical support to homebound senior patients
  • Provide consultation on healthcare issues and support residents in all Senior Services Programs
  • Facilitate educational sessions in the Senior Center on a monthly basis
  • Maintain case notes for all Senior Service residents; update case notes within 24 hours
  • Lead and facilitate health-related workshops twice a month for the senior center participants at Kuehner House and Karin House
  • Assist programs with maintaining healthy food options and menu planning
  • Accompany and transport clients to medical appointments, as needed
