POSITION SUMMARY: Operates the Central Energy Plant (CEP) and other plant locations within the Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital campus including identifying, analyzing, adjusting, and completing all preventative maintenance, repair and adjustment of steam, chilled water, emergency generator, electrical equipment, hot water and soft water producing equipment; ensures daily work schedule and project assignments are completed through individual or cooperative efforts. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Monitors, controls and oversees the operation of multiple gas and oil fired boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, emergency generators, transfer switches, water systems and auxiliary equipment, to ensure that all necessary utilities are available to support the environment of care
- Identifies, assesses, executes and documents the operation, preventative maintenance, repair and adjustment of plant equipment in accordance with federal, state, hospital policies/standards and manufacturing specifications to ensure compliance
- Selects equipment to operate based on building load and outdoor conditions and operates according to manufacturer's recommendations, applicable standards, codes and precautions; adjusts as needed to ensure all equipment is operating as efficiently as possible
- Monitors Energy Plant equipment through computerized software application, routine testing/maintenance and visual inspection to detect operational problems as required by departmental procedure for maintaining equipment as per specifications
- Responds to alarms on facility management system and is aware of the criticality and impact of system failure on patient safety and comfort
- May respond to all energy plant related calls after hours and on weekends; evaluates and initiates repairs or notifies appropriate personnel based on the urgency of the situation to ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors
- Uses proper safety devices and techniques to protect self and others; follows correct procedures and responds to emergency plans in accordance with hospital and department policies to protect the health of themselves, patients, staff and visitors
Full Time, Rotating Shift 40 Hours Per Week Location: Saint Petersburg, FL QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of a High School diploma, GED, Certificate of Completion or equivalent achievement
- 3 years' experience related to troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing diesel generators 2000 kW; 400 horse power boilers and related equipment; 1500 ton chillers and related pumps and cooling towers; or a combination of experience with similar equipment
- Ability to read Building Documents (Blue Prints) and to read and understand technical documents
- Ability to hear and understand audible alarms or noise from mechanical equipment which is not operating normally
